Job Summary
Cancertain Ltd is an award winning start-up biotechnology company developing a personalised cancer test. The company is developing a 3D cell culture system based assay to determine the most appropriate choice of cancer treatment for individual cancer patients. The company is initially focused upon development of a Cancertain test for lung cancer.
We are seeking a junior laboratory technician with understanding of 3D cell culture systems to support development of our Cancertain assay testing service. The laboratory is based at The Heath Business and Technical Park, Runcorn.
Hours (20 Hours a week) are flexible to work around sample delivery and can be tailor-made around a suitable candidate’s lifestyle.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Learn and Perform Primary Cell cultures in accordance to Standard Operating procedure
- Learn and Perform Cell survival/cell death assays in accordance to Standard Operating Procedures
- Report to Laboratory Manager and undertake required duties.

Required Education, Skills and Qualifications
Essential Criteria
Experience
No industrial experience required, but understanding of cell culture and experience at university preferred.
Education, Qualifications and Training
2.1 BSc in biological sciences or related discipline
Skills, General and Specific Knowledge
3.1 Knowledge of Health and Safety within Cell Culture laboratories
3.2 Ability to maintain laboratory equipment and waste removal
3.2 Ability to work independently in the laboratory
3.3 Excellent organisation and record keeping skills
3.4 Good oral and written communication skills
3.5 Capable of multi-tasking and good time management skills
Personal attributes and circumstances
4.1 Ability to manage busy and varied workload
4.2 Flexibility to ensure procurement and processing of samples
4.3 Consistent ability to produce high quality work
4.4 Full Driving Licence is essential for occasional travel to Clinical Trial Site(s)
Desirable Criteria
Experience
1.1 Experience of working with Primary Lung cancer cells
1.2 Cell imaging techniques
1.3 Experience with 3D cell culture techniques
1.4 Preparing stock solutions for in vitro drug dosing
