JOB TITLE:
Junior IT Officer
RESPONSIBLE TO:
IT Manager
RESPONSIBLE FOR:
To co-ordinate and support functions within Information Services with specific responsibilities for
the maintenance of College IT resources.
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Assisting the IT Manager in all aspects of IT, particularly in the day-to-day maintenance of IT
facilities and providing IT support to students and academic and support staff.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responding to support requests from all users, as required by the IT Manager;
Assisting with the diagnosis and resolution of hardware, software and network problems;
Writing and maintaining support guides and systems documentation;
Deploying and maintaining IT hardware and software according to given specifications;
Maintaining IT equipment, such as printers, in College offices and expanded College campus;
Handling goods deliveries and returns, including asset and records management;
Restoring essential services in the event of system failure in conjunction with or if required to
deputise for IT Manager
Other task relating to IT support, deployment and maintenance, as required by the IT Manager
To monitor systems to ensure service continuity
Work with team members and other departments to ensure a timely flow of information.
Abide by all College approved procedures and perform any other duties not specifically detailed,
but which may fall within the overall job purpose and within the expected competence and ability
of the post-holder.
Person Specification
Essential
Minimum of BTEC, degree or relevant practical equivalent.
Experience of meeting the IT needs of a wide range of staff with differing levels of IT experience
and practical knowledge of small to mid-sized computer networking.
Experience of system management and user support on a wide range of operating systems and
applications; some user support experience with Microsoft Windows/Office and Mac OSX is
essential.
A willingness and ability to understand new technologies and to use appropriately.
An understanding of the requirements of online systems for research.
A service orientated mentality.
Experience and confidence with a wide range of IT at the user level.
Experience of the demands in an academic environment would be useful
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively
with non-technical users.
Ability to develop excellent working relationships as part of a close-knit team and with other
College members in a variety of roles and disciplines.
Self-motivating, with determination to see all tasks through to completion
Good personal time management, with the ability to prioritise and plan work effectively.
An understanding of respect for equality and respect for diversity
Understanding of the importance of confidentiality and the ability to deal with confidential
information in an appropriate manner.
