A family run company, Magnetic Shields Limited (MSL) is the industry leader in the design and manufacture of magnetically shielded products and rooms. Our brand new factory unit and Fibre laser with full stock automation more than doubles our production capacity and throughput. This period of expansion is a very exciting time for the company and we are looking to speak to applicants interested in joining us our R&D team as a JUNIOR (GRADUATE) PHYSICIST.
This is an ideal role for someone who has either just graduated or who wants that next career move, looking to develop their career within a small team in a growing department. PHD funding will be available for the right candidate.
About the role:
- Design, simulation and testing of magnetic shielding for a wide range of
- Magnetic testing of final products to ensure adherence to technical specifications and in writing technical reports for customers.
- Communicating with customers to provide technical support, which can additionally involve site visits,
- Work on various Innovate UK funded projects, including electric car battery testing & hybrid shields for Quantum Computing Applications.
- Conducting magnetic shielding simulations using ANSYS and Maxwell 3D
- Assisting in formulating research projects – identifying and formulating internal R&D projects to assist with development of the R&D department
- Planning of internal projects – internal steps that need to happen and timeframes, etc
- Presenting work and findings to project partners and other external stakeholders as appropriate
- Conducting data analysis of magnetic measurements
- Setting up lab experiment to conduct magnetic measurements
- Writing and using software to enable efficiency in lab experiments
Essential Skills/Requirements:
- Batchelor’s degree in Physics
- Good programming skills/experience in at least one programme such as Python, C++, JAVA
- Experience in laboratory work and processing experimental data
- Good technical documentation skills
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Good communication skills
Desirable experience:
- 12 months relevant post-graduate industry experience
- Some experience in or understanding of the fields of electromagnetism and solid-state physics
- Some experience in or understand of the field of quantum sensing
- Experience with EM modelling software (i.e. ANSYS, COMSOL Multiphysics, Opera, )
- Knowledge of instrument automation and data acquisition
- Experience with LabVIEW programming
- Ideally some project management experience
- Good presentation skills
