Job description
About Royal HaskoningDHV
At Royal HaskoningDHV you will be a part of a friendly team of motivated colleagues, while at the same time being part of a world-renowned international engineering consultancy firm with over 6000 employees globally!
What do you do as an Economics Intern
You will be deployed to assist on projects and proposals, as required. In addition, a key part of the job will be to help with different topics related to process improvements, such as the organisation of our internal databases, the preparation of marketing material and supporting documents for proposals.
The position is expected to be on a part-time basis and would serve as a way for us to assess your suitability to be part of the team on a longer basis. At the same time, this will allow you to get a detailed insight into the work that we do and our company, to evaluate whether port consultancy would be the kind of career that you would like to pursue.
The internship is for 3-6 months (to be discussed based on both parties’ individual preference and requirements).
Where you will work
As an intern, you will be part of the Economics & Operations (E&O) Advisory Group, a team that sits in the Water and Maritime business line. It is a group of 20 maritime experts who focus on port authorities, terminal operations, shipping companies, banks, investment funds, as well as government agencies and IFIs.
We support our clients by providing insights into the development and changes in their market and assets. We offer our knowledge when they are faced with investment decisions or enter a transaction to acquire or dispose of an interest in assets in this sector. Our services, therefore, consist of market studies, commercial due diligence, business cases, social-cost analyses, PPP advisory, and strategic consultancy.
The knowledge and experience of this group are also used for projects in other Business Lines within Royal HaskoningDHV, such as the teams working in the industry, mobility, water and land infrastructure sectors. The group operates in the Netherlands, England (London), Singapore and Indonesia (Jakarta).
For this position, we are looking for an intern to work with the team in London, which currently consists of four people. You will primarily interact with the London team on a day-to-day basis but are also expected to work with colleagues based in the Netherlands.
What you bring
You have strong analytical and personal skills, and a drive to learn. We would also appreciate the candidate to have:
- A Transport Economics/Econometrics, Business Economics or a broader but related topic, such as Economics & Finance. A background in Maritime economics is preferred although not a pre-requirement.
- Previous experience in consultancy is an advantage
- Excellent written and spoken English; other spoken/written languages are a plus
- Experienced user of Microsoft Office software package (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
Experience with programming and visualization tools (e.g. PowerBI, Tableau, Python) is an advantage.
What we offer you
Royal HaskoningDHV is in the top 5 advisory and engineering companies in The Netherlands. Royal HaskoningDHV is a great company to work for in the early stages of your career.
During your internship you will be a temporary employee and you will get to know the company from the inside. You will also gain valuable work experience that will serve you for the rest of your career.
You will work with people who, just like you, continue to think where others stop. Your insights and knowledge will be used to formulate the ideal answers and solutions to address our customers’ questions.
During your internship you will:
- Be able to make a visible contribution to the growth of our business in line with the ambition of the company to enhance society together
- Contribute with your insights and knowledge
- Develop your economic skills and general advisory skills
- Get great guidance and help from your colleagues
- Get a great degree of freedom and responsibility
- Get a competitive internship remuneration.
Upon completion of the internship or before, a decision will be made jointly on whether to extend the relationship into a more permanent position or another arrangement.
Are you our new intern?
We would like to meet you!
