Job Summary
The role primarily involves assisting in activities relating to digital imagery for use within the Criminal Justice System within a small forensic laboratory based in Birmingham.
Ideal Candidate
The position is ideal for an individual with a science-related background in digital image and video technology, with demonstratable skills in the latest techniques.
Strong organisational and communication skills are of paramount importance, as is an unwavering attention to detail.
A degree of autonomy and the ability to work efficiently is expected.
No previous experience within the forensics sector is required as training can be provided in relation to such.
Role & Responsibilities
This is a multi-faceted role, covering a range of tasks. Expected responsibilities include:
- Exhibit handling;
- Enquiry handling;
- Case management;
- Imagery conversion;
- Creation of video presentations;
- Providing Peer Review of other examiners casework;
- Working in accordance with the ISO 17025 standard.
Opportunities for progression to the enhancement and analysis of imagery would be expected once competency in more fundamental tasks has been demonstrated.
This role does involve dealing with imagery of a sensitive and potentially disturbing nature, so this should be considered prior to application.
Essential Criteria
Candidates are expected to have or be working toward a BSc in a field related to digital imagery, a passion for the subject, and an understanding of the key concepts and technicalities of such. A level of proficiency using digital video editing software must also be demonstrated.
The role is subject to the ability to obtain a Security Clearance.
Desirable Criteria
Experience in motion graphics, additional qualifications in the field, fluency in a coding language, and published scientific research is desired, but not essential.
