Job description
Clarks has been defining retail fashion for almost 200 years. Just because our brand has an amazing history, though, doesn’t mean we’re not looking to the future. When it comes to the design work that defines our brand, we're always blazing a trail. Right now, we’re looking for a Junior Designer to produce creative work that will make the future of Clarks better-looking for consumers and trade partners alike.
The role
How do you go about incorporating the latest cultural, fashion, typographical and graphic trends into creative design concepts that are unmistakably Clarks? That’s a question you’ll answer every day with the graphical work you produce as part of our Clarks Core design team.
Working with the Creative Team Lead, you’ll deliver work for consumer and trade marketing communications globally. Whether that’s packaging design, promotional campaigns or creative content, you’ll bring our brand to life with design work that communicates with real authority. That’s how you'll secure stakeholder backing for your ideas.
By always delivering work within time and budget constraints that consistently aces the brief, you’ll cultivate an engaged audience for your work both within the business and, more importantly, among consumers.
About you
Whether you’ve just graduated or you’ve been learning on the job, you’ll understand the creative development process, have a thorough understanding of print and digital processes, and be highly competent when it comes to the Adobe Creative Suite. Knowledge of Figma is also an advantage but not required. You have a strong understanding of the different social media platforms including TikTok & Instagram.
It goes without saying that you’re creative with hands-on design skills. Indeed, you’ll be able to show us your graphic design skills and where you’ve delivered great graphic design work from brief to finished product. If you can demonstrate a passion for understanding a target audience, that’s even better. The empowering environment within the Creative team will allow your strong design skills and visionary ability to develop and flourish.
- We'd love to see examples of your work, so please include pdf samples of your portfolio and/or links to your online portfolio with your application.
About Clarks
Clarks, based in Somerset, England, has been at the forefront of innovative shoemaking since its foundation in 1825, when brothers James and Cyrus Clark made a slipper from sheepskin off-cuts. At the time it was ground-breaking: a combination of invention and craftsmanship that has remained at the heart of what the brand does now. In the Clarks archive of more than 22,000 pairs are shoes that have sparked revolutions and defined generations. From the original Clarks Desert Boot, first designed by Nathan Clark and launched in 1950, to the iconic Wallabee, each design has an instantly recognisable signature that makes it unmistakably Clarks.
This season, we’re proud to introduce the Clarks Collective: five incredible activists championing authentic social change. From mental health awareness and LGBTQ+ rights to greater racial equality, these trailblazers are committed to creating a brighter future for us all – bringing to life Clarks’ new global campaign, For the World Ahead. Through spotlighting their stories and supporting their chosen charities and initiatives, we’re ready to lead the way. After all, we’re originators, not imitators. It’s who we are, who we’ve always been. And to change the world of tomorrow, we’re doing things differently today.
