We’re looking for a junior data scientist to help develop data science techniques that’ll enable colleagues to make quicker, more intelligent business decisions at scale. Data sits right at the heart of Co-op, and the wide range of services that we offer provides us with lots of information about our business, members, and customers.
In this role, you’ll use lots of different types of data in complex, long-term projects – supported by other members of the Data Science team. You’ll be developing valuable products that our leaders can use to make a real difference to Co-op and our members. What you’ll do
- develop sustainable data products that drive value to the business, using innovative Databricks and Azure Cloud Technology
- source, prepare, and analyse large tables of data
- use a range of statistical and machine learning techniques like regression, clustering, decision trees, and forecasting
- translate complex business logic and strategic decision-making into code
- drive innovation and explore ways in which we can better utilise Co-op data
- influence a variety of internal partner, promoting and demonstrating the value of data
- build relationships and work closely and collaboratively with the wider data teams
This role would suit people who have
- a Master’s / PhD in Data Science would be beneficial, although a quality Bachelor’s / Master’s / PhD in a highly numerate subject (e.g., Maths, Sciences, Computing, Engineering), alongside some exposure to data science, is a suitable alternative
- the ability to write and develop code (using SQL, Python, or R)
- an inquisitive mind, able to take questions or requirements and use data to provide insight and recommendations
- strong numerical and statistical skills
- excellent communication skills, with an ability to build meaningful relationships (you’ll engage frequently with key partners for requirement gathering, presenting, and feedback)
