Job description

Junior Content Designer
Up to £30,500 plus great benefits (Work level 6B)
Manchester city centre
We’re now working in a hybrid way, with colleagues dividing their time between home/remote working and the office. You can find out more about our hybrid working policy at colleagues.coop.co.uk/hybrid-working-policy

We’re looking for a junior content designer to join our Customer Products team at Co-op and help shape our wide range of digital products and services. You’ll be working with other designers and engineers in a multi-disciplinary environment as well being part of our design and content community. Within our product teams we prioritise working in the open and creating experiences that work for our customers and for Co-op. You can read more about the vital role content plays in our work on our blog.

As a junior content designer, you’ll get involved in the content design process at every stage, positively influencing the whole service experience. You’ll produce engaging and accessible content based on user behaviour, data, and research. If you understand the importance of a user needs approach to content, we can offer you the chance to build a career with a business that’s using digital to make a real difference to our members, colleagues, and communities.

What you’ll do

  • identify and evidence user needs, and show how you’ll meet them
  • create user-focused content to be used across different channels
  • turn business language into accessible content that our customers, colleagues and members understand
  • collaborate with people across Co-op, championing the principles of good content design
  • monitor how content is performing, using user behaviour and feedback to improve it
  • take part in research sessions, including online and in-person
  • take part in our community of practice to share design knowledge across the wider digital team
We don’t expect you to be able to do all this on day 1, but you’ll need experience of writing engaging and informative content to meet user needs.

This role would suit people who have

  • the ability to create content that’s accessible and usable for web and mobile products
  • an understanding of the importance of making content decisions based on user behaviour, data, and research
  • some experience of using metrics to measure the success of content against customer and business goals
  • the ability to build positive relationships with partners in the business
  • the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and with specialists from different areas
  • an understanding of content publishing systems
  • examples of previous content work - you’ll be asked to demonstrate and talk through these examples at interview stage

Why Co-op?

Here you will do work that matters. We are a commercial organisation with a purpose beyond profit, and you’ll have an opportunity to help us build a stronger Co-op and stronger communities. You’ll also get a package that includes

  • competitive salary
  • coaching, training, and support to help you develop
  • pension with up to 10% employer contributions
  • annual incentive scheme
  • Wagestream – a money management app that gives you access to a percentage of your pay as you earn it
  • 28 days holiday (rising to 32 in line with service)
  • YuLife - an app that rewards you for exercising with discounts and vouchers for many of the UK’s biggest brands
  • discounts on Co-op products and services
