You can become a member of the Commercial Casualty (Hub) team, where you’ll be joining an established underwriting team with significant technical & market knowledge, working on a diverse portfolio in a wide range of industry sectors, in the UK domestic & multinational arena; the team also have empowerment to write Property risks which makes it even more resourceful & dynamic.

The International Hub was established 5 years ago and was designed to capture those risks not expressly shown to the Multinational team based in London, it is also well positioned to capture the ‘upper mid-market’ accounts throughout the regional network. The ‘Hub’ team make significant premium contributions to both the Casualty & Property portfolio.
You will take a solution-oriented approach as you develop your Underwriting career with both our Broker partners and customers. You will collaborate with other Lines of Business to ensure we are in the best position to respond to our customers’ needs.

This role offers true potential for the right candidate to progress within the underwriting community and Zurich.
This role is available part-time, job-share or full time. This is because we want the best people for our roles, and we recognise that sometimes those people aren’t available full-time. Please talk to us at interview about the flexibility you may need.

What will you be doing?

  • Working with and supporting a team of highly skilled and motivated individuals, underwrite and analyse both new and renewal Liability business.
  • Handle & review large/complex underwriting submissions and conduct annual underwriting reviews.
  • Administer and monitor underwriting Guidelines whilst complying with insurance laws and Regulations and pricing manuals
  • Develop, maintain & collaborate with Line of Business representatives on referrals and other business-related needs, as appropriate.
  • Work closely with Risk Engineering/Claims/Actuarial/Customer teams & Underwriting Support as required
  • Work with the Finance function and support the Underwriters with adherence of financial requirements, premium collection and the like.
  • Build & Develop relationships with both Brokers & Clients in support of business retention & acquisition, extending through to the provision of solutions for their insurance related needs
  • Participate and contribute to new business pipeline, extending through to opportunity assessment with key distributors to identify growth opportunities
  • Qualify accounts in accordance with the organisation's risk appetite, balanced with sound business opportunity.
  • Learn to Negotiate Terms & Conditions and close deals.
  • Cross-Sell other lines of business to increase product density with the account.
  • Handle & review large/complex underwriting submissions and annual underwriting reviews.

What are we looking for?

  • Accredited degree or similar Insurance qualifications, or working towards
  • Experience of working for an Insurer/Reinsurer in Liability (or Long Tail) Lines (or similar technical lines)
  • Experience working in multicultural/international environment
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build strong relationships with our customers and brokers
  • Knowledge of insurance policy wordings, equivalent broker and market clauses
  • Disciplined approach to exposure evaluation, risk assessment and pricing
