Position Purpose Statement

Provide IT support to all functions and services at the Reading Science Centre and Wokingham.

Specifically this role contributes towards this by:

  • Supporting the business in the use and development of existing scientific and business applications. These include but are not limited to Labware LIMS, OpenLAB, Q-Pulse, IMS, LIMSView, CRM, Results Online, Chromeleon and Data Manager.

  • Analysing the business needs of internal clients and stakeholders to help identify business problems and propose solutions and effectively implement the solution, providing appropriate training and support.

At the Reading Science Centre and Wokingham this role is responsible for supporting approximately 300 user accounts and 100 instrument accounts. The role will also provide essential system and infrastructure support and ensure Quality standards are adhered to.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1st/2nd Line support, administration and advice for scientific and bespoke business applications at all levels of the RSSL business using established procedures for fault reporting and change management. Systems supported include; LIMS, LIMSView, CRM, Results Online, OpenLAB, IMS, Q-Pulse, Network Support, Data Management.

  • Participate and advise in formulating plans for improvements to systems and infrastructure. Technical partners, suppliers and functions include HPe, BT, Ricoh, Agilent, LabWare, Thermo Fisher, Network Team, Active Directory Team.

  • Apply analytical skills to change requests, which could be high-level or lacking in detail. Act on these business needs, identifying solutions to quickly resolve issues related to scientific or local business applications.

  • Work as part of a team to plan and execute the implementation of changes to systems, networks and implementation of new software with minimal disruption to operations.

  • Perform training requirement analysis and deliver training to staff.

  • Ensure the delivery of IT systems meets operational quality standards and complies with appropriate regulatory and legislative requirements.

Job specific requirements:

  • Educated to a Degree in a relevant discipline

  • Some knowledge of Microsoft Windows platforms. An understanding of O365 applications, printers, networking and active directory.

  • Knowledge of scientific applications such as LIMS, OpenLab, Image Access, Mascot if a plus.

  • Ability to demonstrate some functional/ technical skills

  • E xperience of providing 1st/2nd line support on a range of applications.

  • Experience of working in a highly regulated IT environment with stringent change control processes is a plus.
