Job description
You’ll be a key part of the GOV.UK Operations Team and play a critical part in ensuring that all of the underpinning business functions are managed effectively. You’ll be taking direction from the Business Operations Analyst and be responsible for outputs of specific tasks including monitoring and reporting and ensuring join up with the corporate centre.
As a Junior Business Operations Analyst you’ll be involved with:
ownership of GOV.UK People plan, including leavers and starters using appropriate tools and techniques which will support the planning, analysis and improvement of services within GOV.UK
- business planning: assisting the annual and quarterly business planning process, ensuring budget actuals and forecasts are correct, and dependencies across the multiple directorates are captured
- work with the Head of Delivery and Delivery Managers to undertake forward planning of resource needs and helping to ensure resourcing requirements are met by assisting with the recruitment process for civil servants and contractors, where appropriate
- supporting the design and implementation of the Reward and Recognition and Learning and Development processes, keeping accurate records to ensure we remain within budget and carry out analysis to ensure even distribution across the community and gradesupport stakeholder management and identify, analyst and manage relationships with and between internal and external stakeholders, communicating clearly and regularly
Person specification
We’re interested in people who:
- have a track record of delivery through collaboration and partnering in complex environments, including evidence of organisational skills, high personal impact and judgement working with stakeholders
- demonstrate experience in financial management including monitoring and reporting.
- understand the importance of making data-informed decisions based on user research findings. You can support the analysis and prioritisation of user experience needs and understand how needs tie to system, product or service requirements
- demonstrate experience in analysing management information; identifying patterns or themes and extracting the key data to provide valuable intelligence
- experience working in a digital and Agile environment and an awareness of Agile tools and how to use them. You can also advise colleagues on how and why Agile methods are used.
- experience of competence in budget management, planning, forecasting and risk identification combined with excellent problem-solving skills
- strong Excel and data analysis skills combined with a clear understanding of how to present complex information in a clear and understandable way to gain decisions

Selection process details
The selection process as a standard for all of our GDS roles consists of:
- An application screening process - Simply, hit apply. We only ask for a Cover letter (up to 750 words and a CV. Important tip - please ensure that your cover letter includes how you meet the skills and experience listed in the “who you’ll be” section above.
- An interview - We will asses you against the behaviours listed. You may get assessed on your experience and technical elements
GDS offers hybrid working for all employees. This means that everyone does some working from home/remote working and also spends some time in their local office. You will agree to your hybrid working arrangement with your line manager in line with your preferences and business needs.
- If we receive a high number of applications, we may decide to include an additional round (this would typically be a short telephone interview or assessment/exercise depending on the type of role)
A reserve list will be held for a period of 12 months, from which further appointments can be made.
- Candidates that do not pass the interview, however, have demonstrated an acceptable standard will be considered for similar roles at a lower grade.
- The Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) Profession Capability Framework categorisation is under the Product and Delivery job family, and is defined as an Junior Business Analyst on the DDaT framework.
