Overview:
Corporate Transformation is a new Directorate established to increase the Scottish Government’s capacity and capability to shape and deliver transformational corporate change, with impact across the wider public sector. The Directorate will bring structure and governance to the setting of priorities, and manage the delivery of many key projects and programmes.

The Shared Services Programme sits within the Corporate Transformation Directorate and is a flagship change programme that will deliver improved performance and efficiency of how corporate shared services are provided to core Scottish Government and other public bodies in Scotland. With significant multi-year investment in technology planned, the programme will deploy the solutions and platforms required to enable operational and cultural change to meet user needs and provide a better customer experience. Automation technologies are a key enabler for service transformation, helping to deliver early benefits, supporting change and de-risking the transformation of corporate shared services.

This role will be part of the newly formed Scottish Government Automation Centre of Excellence (CoE) team. The CoE and the corporate shared services programme is the initial focus of this role, but the focus will widen as the portfolio of corporate transformation expands.

This post attracts a £5000 DDaT pay supplement after a 3 months DDaT competency qualifying period. Pay supplements are temporary payments and are subject to regular review.
Responsibilities:
Main Duties Of This Role:
A Junior Automation Developer works on agile projects within a portfolio and develops automation solutions. As a Junior Automation Developer, you will contribute towards the development, implementation and management of Robotic Process Automation (RPA) solutions using a variety of methods in support of automation initiatives across cottish Government and the wider public sector.

You will collaborate with stakeholders and end users throughout the project lifecycle, from the identification of automation opportunities, through to the design, development, testing and maintenance of automations, employing process optimisation techniques and the use of LEAN/agile methodologies where required. You will perform the role of Process Controller to manage the day to day administration of BAU automations, provide 2nd line support in the investigation and resolution defects, and will manage change requests for automations within the CoE’s production environment. You will also be responsible overseeing 1st line support, and will peer review other people’s design and development thinking, and ensure they align to the appropriate standards. Specific Duties:
1. Participate in identifying automation opportunities; employing process optimisation techniques and the use of LEAN/agile methodologies where required
2. Support the design, build, testing and deployment of automation process solutions, including collecting and documenting requirements, defining process and technical solutions, prototyping, configuring digital components, and supporting stakeholders
throughout the project lifecycle
3. Conduct initial impact assessments on system change requests
4. As Process Controller, you will maintain the daily administration of the production environment, including scheduling processes and monitoring resources, and investigate, escalate and resolve any issues identified
5. Support software improvements and upgrades
6. Support business and technical reviews of automation performance operational and performance metrics reporting
7. Develop and maintain appropriate documentation for all facets of RPA work
8. Contribute to RPA development methodology and testing practices/standards, ensuring adherence to RPA/development/coding standards and naming conventions
9. Stakeholder engagement, encouraging and facilitating continuous improvement
10. Communicate technical details to a non-technical audience
11. Contribute to governance, including development of the Programme’s Portfolio/Roadmap and plans, progress reporting and RAIDD management
12. Contribute to best practice for the delivery of RPA solutions within the Scottish Public Sector as part of the CoE
13. Line Management and any other duties as required

1. Experience of delivering digital solutions using Agile/Scrum and SDLC methodologies
2. Experience of using diagrams to present information to a group of stakeholders
3. Experience using data manipulation and data visualisation tools
4. An understanding of formal change control procedures and disciplines.
