We are looking for a driven and passionate journalist who wants to help reach new audiences with the news that matters to them. You’ll be a digital journalist who knows what online audiences expect and know how to turn around clean copy under tight deadlines. The role requires someone who will be keen to do more than just look for press releases – we want original journalism that helps reflect the diverse audience that lives in the BBC South region.
There would be a brief writing test as part of any interview.
Main ResponsibilitiesProducing news content for the BBC website and social media accounts for the South of England and beyond
- Responsible for originating and producing stories for the BBC website which can also be used on other outlets.
- Come up with investigation and feature ideas that help us represent the many different sides of life in the South of England.
- To tailor different news treatments for different audiences ensuring that the output reflects the audiences we serve.
- Use social and video to help your journalism travel further either on your own or working with our video specialists.
- Delivering to tight deadlines while maintaining the highest editorial standards.
- The role requires occasional weekend working.
The ideal candidate will meet the following criteria;
- Able to write clean, accurate and concise copy with quick turn around times, for publication on the BBC website.
- Be familiar with social media in a news context and know how to make the most of various platforms to reach a range of audiences
- Understanding of SEO within a news context to help our stories reach the people most interested in and impacted by them.
- Comfortable with creating video content for social platforms, particularly aimed at younger and female audiences
- Able to do basic photo editing on software such as Photoshop Elements.

Contract: Fixed Term Full Time Contract (6 months)
Location: Oxford
You are eligible to apply for an internal role if you are either on a BBC Continuing (Permanent) contract, a BBC Fixed Term contract, a casual contract or freelance contract and you have worked continuously for 6 months.
Only internal staff are eligible to apply for the role on an attachment basis. You need to be on a continuing (permanent) or fixed-term contract.
