Job description

As an NFL beat reporter for the San Francisco 49ers, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive and engaging coverage of the 49ers. Your primary focus will be to deliver accurate and timely news stories, features, analysis, and commentary on all aspects of the team's activities, including games, practices, player transactions, injury updates, and more. You will play a crucial role in keeping our audience informed and entertained with your expert reporting and storytelling abilities.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field
  • Proven experience as a sports reporter with a focus on the NFL.
  • Excellent writing and storytelling skills, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to write in a clear, concise, and engaging manner.
  • Strong knowledge of NFL teams, players, rules, and current events.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Proficiency in multimedia content creation, including video, podcasting, and social media platforms.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to conduct interviews and build relationships with players, coaches, and team personnel.
  • Familiarity with content management systems, SEO best practices, and digital analytics tools is a plus.
  • A strong work ethic, self-motivation, and a passion for sports journalism.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary news source for the assigned NFL team, delivering accurate and up-to-date reports on team activities, game previews, game recaps, and player analysis.
  • Attend practices, games, press conferences, and other team events to gather information, conduct interviews, and provide firsthand accounts of the team's activities.
  • Build relationships with players, coaches, team personnel, and league officials to gather insights, quotes, and exclusive information for breaking news stories.
  • Use various sources, including social media, press releases, team websites, and official league communications, to stay informed about team-related news and developments.
  • Stay updated on NFL rules, regulations, and trends, and provide analysis and interpretation of how they impact the assigned team.
  • Write and publish high-quality news articles, features, profiles, and opinion pieces that engage and inform our audience.
  • Develop creative and compelling story angles, emphasizing human-interest narratives, player profiles, coaching strategies, and other elements that enhance readers' understanding and enjoyment of the team.
  • Work with our Audience Engagement Team to oroduce multimedia content, such as videos, podcasts, and social media posts, to complement written articles and enhance the overall coverage of the team.
  • Utilize data and analytics to provide insights into team performance, trends, and statistical analysis to support your reporting.
  • Collaborate with our Audience Engagement Team and members of the Content Team to produce comprehensive and visually appealing content packages.
  • Coordinate with editors and other staff to ensure coverage plans align with editorial objectives and deadlines.
  • Actively engage with readers and respond to comments, questions, and feedback on various platforms, including social media, to foster reader loyalty and build a strong community.
