Job description

Job Introduction

We’re a good humoured, fun and lively lot, very creative and imaginative with the stories we tell audiences across the Bailiwicks of Guernsey and Jersey – from breakfast through to drive, in the evenings and at weekends too.

We have an opportunity for a talented and enthusiastic multimedia journalist to join our diverse team, bringing alive stories on-air and online. The role is based in Guernsey but you’ll be covering the whole of the Channel Islands.

Main Responsibilities

You will be responsible for finding and delivering stories across radio and social platforms – with a particular emphasis on the biggest local talking points. You will be responsible for the day-to-day running of our social media accounts, building relationships with online communities, and ensuring our audio content is showcased to underserved audiences online, via BBC Sounds. You will also have a range of essential radio skills – allowing you to produce your own stories, in a format ready for broadcast (including iBroadcast clips for Sounds).

Are you the right candidate?

You will have a passion for storytelling and a comprehensive understanding of what matters to our audience. You will understand the BBC Local Radio audio and digital strategies, have an enthusiasm for our output and an aptitude for turning great radio into engaging online content. The ideal candidate should be familiar with social listening tools like CrowdTangle, as well as platform publishing tools such as Social Flow. An ability to shoot video using DSLR cameras or a mobile phone, alongside proficiency with editing tools like Final Cut Pro, is essential. Knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop, is also desirable, although training can be provided. You will have an understanding of iBroadcast and how it can make our content go further, and you will also be confident in radio production techniques such as package making.

About the BBC

We don’t focus simply on what we do – we also care how we do it. Our values and the way we behave are important to us. Please make sure you’ve read about our values and behaviours in the document attached below.

Diversity matters at the BBC. We have a working environment where we value and respect every individual's unique contribution, enabling all of our employees to thrive and achieve their full potential.

We want to attract the broadest range of talented people to be part of the BBC – whether that’s to contribute to our programming or our wide range of non-production roles. The more diverse our workforce, the better able we are to respond to and reflect our audiences in all their diversity.

We are committed to equality of opportunity and welcome applications from individuals, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, socio-economic background, religion and/or belief. We will consider flexible working requests for all roles, unless operational requirements prevent otherwise.
