Do you have expertise in Java?
Are you looking for a company that’s a bit different?
Would you like to work for a company with great onsite facilities and a jam-packed social calendar?
About the role
This is a new opportunity to be a pivotal member of the ATASS Sports IT Development team based at Oxygen House, Exeter. You will be joining a team of eleven working collaboratively on bespoke Java services, clients and libraries for use both in-house and by external partners. These services cover high-availability data transfer, data integrity, user interaction via web GUI and API integrations with third party software. You will be involved in the whole life cycle of our software from design and implementation through testing to build and deployment. You will have technical freedom when working on your own code as well as a voice within the close-knit team to help mould the direction of our shared code, libraries and technologies.
We love to see our team members thrive and future development would be a key aspect of this role. Some of our best project work has grown out of personal interests and a candidate would be encouraged to explore areas they enjoy working on and to contribute to the continuous improvement of our systems.
About us
The company boasts one of the largest commercial statistical research teams in Europe and is a leader in the field of the application of statistical modelling in sports. We have created and continue to develop a collection of statistical and mathematical models that allow sporting outcomes to be predicted with unparalleled accuracy.
We offer a range of on-site facilities at our offices that are available to everyone in the Oxygen House team. There’s an outdoor all-weather pitch for netball, football and tennis, an on-site gym offering regular fitness classes, a pool table, a table tennis table and a café serving delicious, local, and organic food. We’re constantly organising events and activities to support our charities and to socialise.
We are currently working using a flexible hybrid model. For this role we require the successful candidate to be in the office at some point each week and to start their working days by 10am, however, outside of this, we're keen to work with you to find a working model that is beneficial for both you and us. We are ideally looking for someone who is able to work full time (40 hours), however we can consider part-time (minimum of 3 days a week).
Benefits of working with us
We have a range of great onsite facilities including free plant-based meals, unlimited hot and cold drinks, gym, activities and sports classes, social and charity events.
As an employee of ATASS you will have the opportunity to participate in a broad and extensive range of benefits, these include:
- 25 days’ holiday, rising to 30 days’ after 5 years’ service
- 5 additional flex holidays
- Cycle to Work Scheme
- Green Travel Incentive
- Electric Car Scheme
- Free drinks and meals
- Private Medical Insurance
- Dental Insurance
- Contributory Pension – matched up to 5%
... and more.
Job requirements
You’re looking for an exciting opportunity to develop and contribute to the continued success of our software, integral to the company functioning as effectively as possible. You’ll have a calm and logical approach, with strong time management and experience of navigating competing demands, with a range of stakeholders.
Strong, adaptive communication is vital in this collaborative role, with the ability to explain complex systems and concepts to non-technical staff.
You’ll need the following:
- At least three years full stack software development experience in a commercial environment
- Expertise in Java with a working knowledge of SQL and Linux
- Experience with version control (we use Git) and CI/CD tools (we use TeamCity)
- Experience of web-based APIs
- Strong numerical ability with a working understanding of mathematics and statistics being desirable
- High integrity and comfortable with handling sensitive information (previous experience of this desirable)
ATASS Sports is an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of their race, sex, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age.
If you don't meet all of the requirements but feel as though you have relevant experience and the ability to learn quickly, then we'd still like to hear from you, please email us - [email protected]
Unfortunately, at the current time, we cannot accept applications that require sponsorship for an employment visa.
