Do you have expertise in Java?
Are you looking for a company that’s a bit different?
Would you like to work for a company with great onsite facilities and a jam-packed social calendar?
We are currently working using a flexible hybrid model. For this role we require the successful candidate to be in the office for weekly team meetings and to start their working days by 10am, however, outside of this, we're keen to work with you to find a working model that is beneficial for both you and us. We are ideally looking for someone who is able to work full time (40 hours), however we can consider part-time (minimum of 3 days a week).
This is a new opportunity to be a pivotal member of the ATASS Sports IT Development team based at Oxygen House, Exeter. ATASS Sports are part of the Oxygen House Group.
You will be joining a team of eleven working collaboratively on bespoke Java services, clients and libraries for use both in-house and by external partners. These services cover high-availability data transfer, data integrity, user interaction via web GUI and API integrations with third party software. You will be involved in the whole life cycle of our software from design and implementation through testing to build and deployment. You will have the technical freedom to work on your own code as well as a voice within the close-knit team to help mould the direction of our shared code, libraries and technologies
We love to see our team members thrive and future development would be a key aspect of this role. Some of our best project work has grown out of personal interests and the successful candidate would be encouraged to explore areas they enjoy working on and to contribute to the continuous improvement of our systems.
You’re looking for an exciting opportunity to develop and contribute to the continued success of our software, integral to the company functioning as effectively as possible. You are an enthusiastic and flexible problem solver. You’ll have a calm and logical approach, with strong time management and experience of navigating competing demands, with a range of stakeholders.
Strong, adaptive communication is vital in this collaborative role, with the ability to explain complex systems and concepts to non-technical staff.
- Proven experience in full stack software development in a commercial environment
- Expertise in Java with a working knowledge of SQL and Linux
- Experience with version control (we use Git) and CI/CD tools (we use TeamCity)
- Experience of web-based APIs
- Strong numerical ability with a working understanding of mathematics and statistics being desirable
- High integrity and comfortable with handling sensitive information (previous experience of this desirable)
If you don't meet all of the requirements but feel as though you have relevant experience and the ability to learn quickly, then we'd still like to hear from you.

About us
Our story began in 1998 when Mark Dixon, a university statistics lecturer, decided to set up a consultancy offering statistical modelling and research services. His love of football led him to take on more sports-related work and by 2001 he and a handful of colleagues were working under the new identity of ATASS Sports. Today we are one of the largest commercial statistical research teams in Europe and a leader in the application of statistical modelling in sports, maintaining and developing mathematical models to predict sporting outcomes with unparalleled accuracy. A love of sport is still at the heart of the company, with regular activities including visits to high-profile sporting events as well as in-house competitions and leagues.
ATASS Sports was the first of a range of successful entrepreneurial and philanthropic ventures Mark has made, others including Sparx, which teaches Maths in schools, Oxygen Conservation, leading efforts in land preservation and rewilding and Global City Futures, providing consultancy for low carbon city development.
As well as professional excellence, social responsibility is a key part of our ethos, with frequent fund-raising for charity, a team set up to minimise our environmental impact, and support for volunteering through paid time off and organised activities
