Job description
Develop your skills – and help our team do the same
The challenge
Often in the public eye, the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) is an evolving public corporation. Essentially, we’re responsible for shaping and delivering the regulation of nuclear safety and security across the UK. It’s vital work, and our team depends on high-performing ICT. As our IT System Administration Lead, you’ll keep critical services running, while building your leadership skills.
The role
In this key, central role, you can advance your career as a leader within our growing IT Service Management Team. Together, you’ll provide a high-quality service to colleagues, tackling 1st and 2ndline incidents, service escalations and continually improving the service in line with best practice. To get the best from your team, you’ll need to inspire and mentor each Administrator, providing guidance and support. It’s all about developing skills and performance, and driving IT operational excellence.
With this goal in mind, you’ll also look at the wider picture, identifying and reporting upon patterns in IT service and incident trends. Your work will bring you into contact with colleagues across ONR, so you’ll need great communication skills to build strong relationships.
The person
Organised and proactive, you’ll have an ITIL Foundation Certificate and a background in IT. Ideally you’ve worked in a service desk environment, but this isn’t essential. What’s important are your people skills and ability to nurture and encourage talent. Naturally collaborative, you’ll be comfortable dealing with a range of people and taking the right decisions. Join us, and you’ll have the chance to boost your management skills and IT qualifications, such as PL-900 Microsoft Power Platform Fundamentals and MTA Cloud Fundamentals. We believe in helping every colleague reach their full potential.
The rewards
We offer competitive salaries at the ONR, with this role attracting a salary of £31,798 - £37,290 plus an additional £4,052 London Weighting Allowance if applicable. Furthermore, you’ll be eligible for a substantial Civil Service Pension scheme (including ill-health retirement and lump sum family benefits), and generous holiday entitlement.
About us
ONR is a Public Corporation with a mission to protect society by securing safe nuclear operations. Our staff are drawn from a wide range of professional backgrounds with specialist inspectors to deliver our core business including civil engineering, radiological protection, human factors, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering and nuclear physics. And together they’re involved in everything from assessing safety cases, inspecting nuclear sites, communicating our decisions, training new recruits and representing the UK and ONR within the wider international nuclear community.
