Duties

  • As an IT Cybersecurity Specialist some of your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Managing the eRA Commons and IMPACII systems, which provide IT solutions and support for the full life cycle of grants administration for the NIH Grant business line of business application.
  • Representing the OER/eRA perspective on eRA software development teams and working groups that are focused on identifying and evaluating new and emerging information security and assurance methodologies.
  • Identifying and initiating actions to evaluate new and emerging information assurance and cybersecurity defense practices with the potential to advance NIH's mission.
  • Reviewing, revising and recommending changes in the direction of eRA strategic IT plans in response to new and emerging practices involving cybersecurity and assurance.
  • Developing reports and recommendations on new policies, processes for implementing procedures, practices, techniques and strategies for eRA information resource management planning and cybersecurity activities.
  • Advising on the conduct of internal reviews of IT security management information programs to identify needs, business process requirements and organizational infrastructure including staffing and financial commitments.
  • Leading in the development of risk analysis, contingency planning, and disaster recovery for the eRA operating systems.
  • Developing and Implementing measures to protect the system infrastructure from physical destruction or theft; ensuring that back-up procedures are in place for recovery from loss, destruction or disaster, or from physical damage.
  • Ensuring that cybersecurity defense processes and facilities are in place to provide extremely robust protection against data loss or improper data modification.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for an IT Cybersecurity Specialist,GS-2210 at the GS-14 level, you must have IT related experience demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience obtained in either the private or public sector, and/or completion of specific, intensive training that demonstrates that I possess all of the following four competencies: 1. Attention to Detail - is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail; 2.Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services; 3. Oral Communication -Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately; 4. Problem Solving - identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations;

You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector typically gained in the IT field or through performing IT related tasks such as: managing IT projects, developing, implementing, and evaluating information cybersecurity program for an organization; managing information security and assurance initiatives relative to intrusion detection/prevention, vulnerability assessment, continuous monitoring, diagnostic and mitigation; applying cybersecurity functions (e.g., encryption, access control, and identity management) to reduce exploitation opportunities; providing enterprise risk management guidance for continuity of operations planning; advising senior management officials regarding cybersecurity activities, defense, and assurance operations, processes, and best practice.

You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
