This will be working an on-call rota.

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a Digital Infrastructure Manager to lead our technical support teams that have day-to-day responsibility for the core network, server and storage infrastructure, desktops and mobile devices management and other related infrastructure platforms. These include technologies from Microsoft, VMware, Dell, Cisco, Atos Unify and other global platform leaders.

Reporting to the Head of Digital Operations and Cyber Security, the post-holder will provide leadership to a team of technical engineers, ensuring the delivery of high quality Digital operational and technical support services. It is expected that you will have previous experience working at a senior technical level within a large, complex environment and be able to provide a high degree of technical guidance and line management to our technical teams.

This is an extensive role where you will need to demonstrate a high degree of energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to succeed. The role requires flexibility and creative thinking skills to persistently contribute to the Digital directorate’s great customer service ethos and continuous improvement agenda, A pre-requisite is the ability to communicate with and present effectively to colleagues and other internal and external stakeholders, and candidates must be able to build and maintain good relationships with those around them at all levels of the organisation.

Responsible for managing the creation of suitable technical environments (including specification, build and deployment) and associated operational processes (e.g. configuration management, backups, maintenance and updates) ensuing the use of agreed and documented methods for assurance and consistent repeatability, using appropriate toolsets such as policy-based configuration, automation and orchestration platforms

Implement, monitor and maintain suitable lifecycle management of hardware, software and associated services in a mission critical 24x7x365 environment to ensure replacement products or upgrades are introduced and operationalised in line with end-of-life dates, ensuring that they are high performing, well maintained, promptly patched and kept running at a secure and supported version.

Management of storage and compute platforms; currently a combination of physical and virtual servers; Direct Attached Storage (DAS), Storage Attached Network (SAN) and Network Attached Storage (NAS); and a growing number of cloud-based systems and services

Management of network and telecoms technologies from Dell, Cisco, Atos Unify and software toolsets from other global platform leaders.

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Management of both Network and Infrastructure (Storage / Server / Telecoms) Support Teams including supporting of other identified Managers within the Digital Operations Department.
  • Responsible for all Digital infrastructure assets, including servers, storage and network components including their maintenance and support.
  • Ensuring that the monitoring of IT performance and capacity is in place with regular reports being provided.
  • To ensure all infrastructure and telephony faults / outages are resolved in a timely fashion being the first point of escalation past the Service Desk for such incidents.
  • To ensure that appropriate backups exist of all infrastructure assets through the implementation of suitable controls and procedures.
  • In collaboration with the IT Support & RA Manager, to maintain appropriate documentation and CMDB with regard to Infrastructure and how they underpin Trust Services.
  • To ensure that, in close collaboration with the IT Security and Continuity Manager, that all Infrastructure assets have appropriate threat mitigation controls / intrusion detection controls.
  • Be responsible for Digital infrastructure procurement through the planning and requisition of such assets in line with agreed budget set out by the Head of Digital Operations & Cyber Security, IT Contracts & Purchasing Manager and Procurement.
  • In collaboration with the IT Contracts & Purchasing Manager, manage existing IT support contracts through appropriate engagement with suppliers.
  • Plan significant changes to Trust Digital systems and services when required.
  • Plan and control upgrades to Trust Digital systems which are required to meet the tactical or strategic goals of the Trust.
  • To analyse, compare and implement highly complex technical solutions.
  • Contribute to Digital projects and solutions, meeting the agreed quality standards, timescales and cost budgets through the role of Senior Supplier or Chair as required.
  • Support the data and information security requirements of the Trust and according to local and nation governance and policy.
  • Development and maintaining of standard operating procedures.
  • Is the Trust lead for the specification and introduction of new Digital infrastructure solutions.
  • Understand and resolve highly complex technical and organisational issues in identifying and providing solutions.
  • Ensure that any system or service implementations they contribute towards are fully tested and comply with security and confidentiality standards.
  • May be asked to form part of the Digital Infrastructure / Management / Incident out of hours on-call service.
  • May be asked to deputise for the Head of Digital Operations & Cyber Security as required.
Communications
  • The post holder will be the prime contact for Trust Digital infrastructure issues.
  • The post holder may be required to communicate with senior managers and project stakeholders to provide feedback, risk analysis, project status and details of emerging issues.
  • Deliver complex material to a non-technical audience.
  • Negotiate with and influence users and suppliers to ensure project goals are met.
  • Ensure system and user documentation is available for all systems they implement or upgrade and make sure that this is kept up to date.
Analytical Skills
  • Will respond to complex queries relating to Trust Digital infrastructure systems and services and be the technical authority for such requests.
  • Will identify and diagnose system problems; providing resolution or temporary workaround options.
  • Will provide expertise to the implementation and ongoing support of Trust infrastructure network systems.
Planning & Organisation
  • Plan and manage the delivery of projects as set out by the Head of Digital Operations & Cyber Security.
  • Prioritise own time whilst ensuring deliver of targets set out by the Head of Digital Operations & Cyber Security.
  • Plan activities to avoid or minimise disruption to Trust systems and services co-ordinating with Service General Managers and Information Asset Owners.
  • Adhere and contribute to the creation of departmental change control procedures; providing feedback to the Head of Digital Operations & Cyber Security where appropriate.
  • Will need to be flexible and adjust work schedules in order to meet departmental, Trust and customer requirements.
  • To participate in internal forums, meetings and standing committees as required and to contribute information in regard to central services.
  • Create technical documentation with a clear understanding of the business and user needs.
  • Create and maintain high quality project documentation such as highlight / progress / exception / completion reports etc. as appropriate.
  • Acquire and maintain detailed knowledge of the Digital infrastructure and technologies so that enquiries can be clearly and quickly addressed.
Policy & Service Development
  • To develop, in collaboration with the IT Security & Continuity Manager, Disaster Recovery / Business Continuity plans for Trust systems and services and to ensure testing of procedures.
  • To adhere to Trust policies and procedures relating to the operation and security of systems.
  • Ensure organisational policies are applied in own work environment.
Human Resources
  • Lead the Digital Infrastructure teams providing clear leadership and management.
  • Ensure appraisals and target setting is conducted for all Infrastructure staff.
Information Resources
  • Understand, document and support the needs of National applications where they have dependences with Trust Digital Infrastructure
  • To ensure any process they put in place maintains data integrity, security and quality.
  • Ensure business continuity plans are followed in relation to the support and maintenance of Trust Digital Infrastructure.
Research & Development
  • Maintain specialist knowledge in Digital infrastructure that may be beneficial to the Trust and participate in piloting and testing of these where appropriate.
  • Maintain a thorough awareness of current and emerging technologies that may be beneficial to the Trust and undertake the piloting and testing of these where appropriate. Being able to produce documentation and positioning papers when required.
  • Maintain awareness of health-related information technology systems and their capabilities.
  • Maintain an awareness of associated National policies and initiatives.
