At Metropolis/emap, we rely on our IT systems to power the solutions that help our staff and customers. We are seeking an experienced IT manager who can join us on this journey, using his or her technological skills to make us more efficient. In this role, you will analyze our current systems and assets, recommend, and implement solutions and upgrades, and provide some training. Our ideal candidate has extensive knowledge of network maintenance, experience managing staff, and advanced industry knowledge to keep us on the cutting edge. From day one, you will have an immediate impact on the day-to-day efficiency of our IT operations, and an ongoing impact on our overall growth.
Key responsibilities:
- Maintain essential IT operations, including operating systems, security tools, applications, servers, email systems, laptops, desktops, software, and hardware.
- Own projects, solutions, and key responsibilities within a larger business initiative
- Handle business-critical IT tasks and systems administration
- Research and evaluate emerging technologies, hardware, and software.
- Track and maintain hardware and software inventory.
- Analyze department needs, identify vulnerabilities, and boost productivity, efficiency, and accuracy to inform business decisions.
- Ensure network components meet needs and work together seamlessly, using the full range of capabilities, and stay informed about new features and competitive solutions.
- Continuously analyze current process, technologies, and vendors to identify areas of improvement.
- Prepare cost benefits analysis reports when upgrades are necessary, continuously analyzing vendors to ensure they offer the best possible service and value for company needs.
- Train employees on both software and hardware, troubleshoot, and provide technical support when needed.
- Responsible for creating and administering disaster plans that will keep the company functional in the event of a crisis.
- Running regular checks on network and data security
- Identifying and acting on opportunities to improve and update software and systems.
- Developing and implementing IT policy and best practice guides for the organisation
- Conducting regular system audits
- Running and sharing regular operation system reports with senior staff
- Overseeing and determining timeframes for major IT projects including system updates, upgrades, migrations, and outages
- Managing and reporting on allocation of IT budget
- Providing direction for IT team members
- Identifying opportunities for team training and skills advancement
- Develop innovative network troubleshooting methods that reduce downtime and lower repair costs.
- Responsible for backups.
Skills and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in technology or computer science
- 5+ years’ experience in IT management
- Experience with or knowledge of operating systems (MS Exchange, Active Directory, MACs, and other Windows-based systems), current equipment and technologies, enterprise backup and recovery procedures, and system performance monitoring
- Expertise with implementing, configuring, and testing solutions
Core competencies:
- Proven experience in managing IT infrastructure and services.
- Experience with network architecture and client/server technology, network administration, and network installation.
- Proficient in computer hardware, cabling installation and support, wireless technology applications and interface, and IT security.
- Proficient in Microsoft Windows software, including Server, Office, and Exchange.
- Management and leadership skills.
- Multi-tasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Flexible working hours.
- Understanding of complex information and requirements

Place of work: This exciting position is a full-time hybrid role. 2 days from home, 3 days in our offices in Croydon, Ealing and Blackfriars. This could change over time depending on business needs.
