Job description

We have a great new role come in for an Application IT Developer to work for Nottinghamshire Police on a permanent basis. You will be working out of their headquarters in Arnold.

PLEASE NOTE DUE TO POLICE VETTING CRITERIA YOU MUST HAVE BEEN RESIDING WITHIN THE UK CONTINUOUSLY FOR AT LEAST 5 YEARS.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Interpret requirements for new or changed business applications, processes and capabilities. Translate logical designs into physical designs taking account of the target environment, performance requirements, security requirements and existing systems.
  • Produce detailed designs and document all work using required standards, methods and tools, including prototyping tools where appropriate for discussion and approval.
  • Apply data analysis and data modelling to establish, modify or maintain a data structure and its associated components (entity descriptions, relationship descriptions, attribute definitions). Translate object and data models into appropriate database schemas within design constraints. Interpret installation standards to meet project needs and produces database components as required
  • Contribute to the development of Dev/Ops delivery models, procedures and standards.
  • Produce test scripts against defined User Stories/Requirements and work with the Test Engineer to facilitate the test requirements by producing the required materials and regression packs for new or amended products as scoped by the Test Engineers and Business Analyst. Specify requirements for environment, data, resources and tools.
  • Interpret, execute and document complex test scripts using agreed methods and standards. In conjunction with the Test Engineer when allocated, record and analyse actions and results, and maintain a defect register and plan corrective actions. Review test results and modify tests if necessary. Provide reports on progress, anomalies, risks and issues. Produce reports on system quality and metrics on test cases
  • Create test cases from analysis of both functional and non-functional specifications (such as reliability, efficiency, usability, maintainability and portability investigate issues, collect performance statistics and create reports.
  • Maintain service design package and work with colleagues across Information Services to plan for support readiness through service transition/Service Management support processes.
  • Produce technical documentation including, where appropriate, handover to the client and to the IT Support and IT Operations as part of the Service Transition toolkits.
  • Ensure new versions of software integrate into existing source systems where appropriate and perform upgrades or other modifications to maximise operational effectiveness. This includes software supplied by external suppliers and working in conjunction with them, ensure that they adhere to current Force IT policies and procedures.
  • Participate in the Force Career Conversation process and take responsibility for identifying and managing your own professional and career development needs
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Experience and knowledge as listed in the following areas:
      • Microsoft .NET, ASP, C#, VB6, VB.net, .NET Core, MVC and OOP Development, WCF, Console Apps
      • JavaScript, jQuery, Angular.JS 2/4, React.JS, Vue.JS
      • HTML5, CSS3, Bootstrap 3/4
      • XML, JSON
      • Mobile Technologies, Cross-Platform Xamarin Development
      • REST APIs, SOAP Services, Microservices
      • ETL Processes including SSIS
  • Must have a good understanding or an aptitude to learn advance JavaScript libraries and frameworks, such as AngularJS, KnockoutJS, ReactJS, VueJS etc.
  • Experience of working in a Dev/Ops environment
  • Must have practical experience in the use, design and construction of relational databases.
  • Must have experience of open system multi-tiered environments, using Windows, Microsoft Development tools such as Visual Studio, SQL Server Management Studio, and Oracle based tools such as Toad.
  • Must be skilled in the use of MS SQL, PL/SQL for Oracle, NoSQL Databases, Mongo and Object Based Storage
  • Demonstrate experience of a structured approach to carrying out investigations, problem analysis and in producing reports including recommendations..
  • Experience of working within an ITIL based organisation.

  • Be able to determine effective solutions to Force wide customer requirements/proposals or problems by maintaining an in-depth technical expertise and awareness of the specialised IT systems in force and any relevant new developments in the information technology market.
  • Must be able analyse requirements, document, design software and write applications.
  • Must be able to take into account new information or changed circumstances and modifying understanding of a problem or situation accordingly.
  • Be able to communicate both verbally and in writing clearly, concisely and courteously to users, suppliers and colleagues of all levels.
  • Be self-motivated, self-confident, enthusiastic and able to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Be pro-active, flexible, open minded and innovative in style; willing to experiment with new ideas and implement change.
  • Be able to analyse a problem or situation break it down systematically into its component parts and identify the relationships between these parts, selecting the appropriate method/tool to resolve the problem and reflect on the result, so that that learning is identified and absorbed
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATION
  • Must have practical Software experience gained over a number of years and be educated to Degree level or have equivalent experience
  • Training and/or experience of structured data analysis techniques.
  • ITIL Foundation Certificate
