The Information Technology Communications team has an exciting opportunity for an apprentice, based at our offices in Swansea.

Are you looking to develop the knowledge, skills and understanding to begin an exciting career? If so this could be your opportunity to join National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) and begin your IT career with a world class utility company.

Training will be provided over a period of four years. It will be a mix of vocational work-based training and formal courses held in our Training Centre at Taunton and other institutions as appropriate.

Rewarding success and development is important to us and as part of this role you’ll receive annual salary increases.

Please note - Interviews will be held on Tuesday 13th and Wednesday 14th June at our Swansea offices.

If you are offered a position, you will be required to successfully complete a basic DBS check that shows any unspent convictions or conditional cautions.

Main Responsibilities

The IT Communications team perform a critical role in enabling the business to excel, and are responsible for the design, commissioning and support of robust, efficient and secure Communications services across all NGED offices. These include Computer Networking, Firewall Security, IP Telephony, WAN services and many associated technologies.

The Ideal Candidate

Successful candidates will have (or expect to achieve) two ‘A’ levels at grades A* - D, one of which must be in the following subjects: Mathematics, Physics or Computer Science. Alternatively, relevant Level 3 or Level 4 qualifications will be considered.

Evidence of your qualifications will be required prior to appointment.

Effective liaison with internal customers and external contractors, at a variety of management levels, is a key part of delivering these services – hence the ability to communicate clearly and build relationships is also very important.

The majority of the vocational training will take place within local teams, but you will also be required to undertake placements at other locations across the NGED service area, so you will need to be flexible and able to travel.

If you join us you will enjoy a package of benefits designed to reward your hard work and incentivise your ambition. In addition to your competitive salary, we offer a competitive contributory pension scheme where the company will double match your pension contributions up to a maximum company contribution of 10%. You will also have access, subject to eligibility criteria, to join our annual Share Save plan.

You will be entitled to 23 days annual leave entitlement, plus 8 bank holidays rising to 26 days on completion of training.
