We currently have an opening in our customer focused Field Operations Team with the chance to gain wide exposure to the latest hardware and software, supporting police officers, police staff and volunteers across Kent. Providing IT support across the county and enabling office moves, upgrades and retrieval of assets. As a Field Operations Engineer, day to day duties will involve a significant amount of driving, attending police stations and other sites to provide on-site, face to face assistance to ensure officers and staff can perform their duties. Therefore, a full valid UK driving licence is required for the role. That the job does have a high level of physical activities: moving IT equipment to police stations, moving IT kit for office moves, readying kit for handout, breaking down packaging for the recycling containers.

Demonstrating attention to detail, provided your thought process in finding and fixing issues including examples of testing your theory and key points you considered.

Outline where you have taken responsibility and accountability, owned a task to determine a “process” to a satisfactory result, highlighting the consequences of it not happening. Examples where you have defined or adapted the process which has been adopted going forward.

Strong communication skills where you have had to adapt your communication style to your audience. Examples of communicating to technical and non-technical individuals and how your vocabulary and delivery altered.

Do you hold a valid UK driving licence?

The following would be an advantage but are not essential to evidence in your application yet, would be useful to know:

Examples of troubleshooting, installing, and repairing any computer, laptops or printing devices, personal or otherwise.

Knowledge or awareness of Microsoft Window 10 and Office 365 applications such as Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook etc. Where did you use them, how often?

Any Microsoft or other IT qualifications you hold

The role comprises of travel to police sites and some office based work. This role is based at Headquarters Northfleet with the first 6 months training based at Kent Police Sutton Road, Maidstone. Please note however that there may be occasions where you are asked to cover the other areas within Kent. Please note that any excess travel costs from the existing contractual workplace to any future contractual workplace will not be paid and applicants are advised to take potential travel mileage increases into consideration when deciding to apply

We have three location hubs around Kent; Aylesford, Folkestone and Headquarters Northfleet, so there is opportunity to relocate as a static worker if a vacancy arises.

Standard Office hours are 08:00 – 16:00 Monday to Friday, however there may be occasions where you are asked to work outside of these cores hour to meet operation requirements so some flexibility would be expected.

Kent Police and Essex Police have separate salary grading systems therefore the salary for this position will be dependent on which home office force you are appointed to. This will be discussed with the successful applicant before a final offer is made.

Note for potential candidates - It is currently proposed that the Kent Police, Sutton Road site will be sold and all members of staff currently working there will be redeployed to other workplaces and/or required to work in a more agile way. All new staff appointed to roles currently based at Kent Police, Sutton Road after 25 May 2020 and before the closure of the site will be accepting the contract knowing that their workplace will change. They will not be eligible to claim for any additional ‘home to work’ mileage costs or additional public transport costs incurred from the requirement to travel their new contractual workplace. The only exceptions to this will be for existing internal staff where the new role is a promotional opportunity or a move internally with the Kent Police, Sutton Road site (i.e. from one role based at that site to another role based at that site).
