ICT Apprentice

Working within IT Operations, the role of the apprentice will be to spend the duration of training scheme in a variety of placements. Some of these placements will be mandatory and will give a good baseline understanding of IT at BSI. The apprentice will start the role in the office and progress to hybrid working after 3/4 months.

What will the apprentice be doing?
Mandatory placements in second and third line infrastructure teams will provide exposure to a multitude of IT support teams and allow experience of dealing with common and uncommon incidents and requests.
Optional placements can be chosen from Digital Workplace, Service Management, Networks, Applications Management and DevOps. The options provided for selection by the apprentice will be based on candidate selection and chosen development path.
Each placement will have its own set duration, manager, objectives, training and access requirements – these are attached at the end of this job description for reference.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities across all placements
· Obtain a good working knowledge of BSI as a business and what its main reliance on IT is.
· Gain an understanding of technology stacks, principles and processes.
· Ensure all calls are effectively managed and owned through resolution and closure.
· Act as a team player to share information and knowledge to ensure service is consistent and at the highest level that can be achieved.
· Continuously strive to offer an excellent level of customer service.
· Ensure adherence to Group IT policies at all times.
· Accountable for raising changes in-line with the documented procedures and timescales.
· Provide technical and administrative assistance to other IT teams as required.
· Must be prepared to work offsite for set periods as appropriate for the role.
· Ensure completion of apprenticeship work as set by the apprenticeship provider (for example, JustIT).
Key Dimensions
· There are office locations in Chiswick, Milton Keynes and Hemel Hempstead.
· We support offices across globally, though travel will likely remain in the UK.
· Monthly ticket volumes for IT average at 4000 incidents, 2500 requests and 150 changes.
· Majority critical business processes are automated and are highly dependent on IT equipment and services.
· Our 24/7 systems are hosted in a secure, resilient data centres.
· This role is designed to give apprentices a good baseline understanding to be able to succeed in a full time IT role (role not guaranteed as part of the programme).
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
· ICT (Information Communications Technician) Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard.
· You will also receive full training and support from the Just IT Apprenticeship team to increase your skills.
· Your training will include gaining A Level 3 IT qualifications.
