The role
Aspen Insurance is a global property and casualty insurance firm with key offices in London, USA and Bermuda. The London office is seeking an experienced operations person to join the Group Investments team which manages a diverse portfolio of assets across the group.
The successful candidate will be an experienced operations person with strong technical and reporting skills coupled with an enthusiasm for accuracy and attention to detail. The role reports to the Group Investments Head of Accounting and Operations and is responsible for investment operations working alongside the external investment manager operations and the investment team. The role is best suited to an organized, collaborative operations specialist with experience of different asset classes, particularly credit and derivatives.
Key accountabilities
- Responsible for maintaining all custody accounts, portfolio accounts and transferring cash and securities as required.
- Work with the custodians to ensure the accurate safekeeping and reporting of assets for each legal entity.
- Monitor and manage the collateral and daily margin calls for liquidity facilities including repos.
- Report and maintain restricted assets related to different aspects of the insurance business.
- Maintain and operate the electronic system used for transferring securities, payments and reporting holdings with the custodians.
- Report the investment holdings across fixed income, equities, alternatives, derivatives and cash for the legal entities.
- Maintain a register of custody accounts and portfolio accounts.
- Liaise with counterparties, custodians, external investment managers, investment banks, and accountants to ensure any issues are resolved in a timely manner.
- Assist with various aspects of investment reporting including the month end process to meet reporting deadlines.
- Assist with internal and external audit queries to ensure smooth audit review process.
- Assist with projects relating to the improvement of processes and other strategic initiatives.
Skills & experience
- 5 years or more experience in investment operations in asset management, insurance or fund services sectors.
- Excellent communication skills, proactive, self-motivated and collaborative.
- Strong technical skills and enthusiasm for accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong IT skills essential, including advanced level Excel.
- Strong candidates will have completed finance / business studies.
- Relevant knowledge of investment accounting processes such as fund administration.
- Preferred experience in re-insurance sector and Aladdin.
- Preferred accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
