Investment Analyst – CIO Front Office, HSBC Asset Management

The Governance team plays a pivotal role of supporting the Front Office Investment function, providing investment governance and process oversight across the entire suite of HSBC Asset Management funds. The team provides detailed analysis on investments using various quantitative and qualitative tools, applying a quantitative understanding of investment risk models to recognise and query the drivers of market risk and the implications on product performance and attribution. The team is also responsible for Investment Process oversight to ensure the application of robust, transparent and consistent processes, as well as to maintain the integrity and strengthen the efficacy of Investment Excellence, all of which ultimately lead to better client outcomes. The Governance team also provide insightful and timely investment commentary to senior stakeholders and Board members.
We are currently seeking an individual to join this team as Investment Analyst. In this role you will be responsible for providing effective oversight of all funds and mandates across the Front Office, covering Equity, Fixed Income, Multi-Asset, Quantitative Equity & Liquidity, across Global and International offices within HSBC Asset Management.
In this role, you will:
- Provide comprehensive portfolio and market analysis to the global CIO office and the front office function for all investment strategies managed globally by HSBC AMG.
- Demonstrate understanding in Fixed Income, Equities and Multi-Asset product strategies and products. Build knowledge of the core funds and their objectives.
- Demonstrate an understanding of volatility and return by analysing key risk and performance drivers, asking insightful questions and providing challenge at quarterly governance meetings.
- Demonstrate an understanding of investment strategies and analyse the successful application of said process. Support the organisation and function of the Investment Process Committee. Act as a guide and advisor to teams undergoing process reviews and provide quality materials at review meetings.
- Maintain Investment Excellence measures and assist in the ongoing development of the Investment Excellence Framework.
- Deliver insightful and well-written Investment commentary. These can range from short market commentaries and high-level summaries of key performance and volatility drivers across the entire front office, to detailed fund analysis and security selection.
- Enhance and streamline processes and analysis tools to facilitate better challenge and process management. Monitor key statistics to understand if and confirm that funds behave in line with expectation’s given the market environment.
- Support the head of the team to develop and maintain the Governance process and Investment Oversight and Investment Excellence framework.
To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirements:
- A holder of or working towards a professional qualification such as IMC, CFA or FRM is essential for this role
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; highly numerate and organised with good attention to detail
- Interested in financial markets and financial instruments
- A good understanding of risk sensitivities, modern portfolio theory and security analysis.
- Some understanding of the techniques used in portfolio management would be desirable
- Great communication skills, both verbally and written
- Confident with stakeholder engagement at all levels
- A positive and proactive attitude with flexibility to accommodate a changing environment and a willingness to take on new responsibilities
This is a Hybrid working role with the base location as Birmingham. The successful candidate will have to have the ability to commute to this location.
