The role
We have an incredible opportunity to join us here at Phoenix Group as an Authorised Fund Management Oversight Analyst within our Asset Management function. This is a key role in the team, responsible for supporting the oversight of the key operational relationships between Phoenix Group and its Authorised Fund Management (AFM) team and outsourced suppliers for Unit Trusts by ensuring that services are delivered in line with agreements and that benefits are both identified and realised. The AFM Oversight Analyst will also be integral to supporting the preparation of appropriate management information and executive analysis on the services. The successful candidate will also be involved in key project / change initiatives relating to the AFM function.
This role would suit those who have some experience as an Investment Analyst or similar, within the Financial Services; Asset Management / Banking industry. We are also open to considering individuals who have recently graduated with limited work experience in this area.
Key responsibilities
- To understand all aspects of the AFM operation to support the execution of an oversight model for the Unit Trusts
- Be able to work independently and support the oversight of the following:
- daily fund activities to ensure they are carried out by the outsourced suppliers for the Unit Trusts (Fund Accounting, Transfer Agency, Tax and Investment Management) and escalate any issues to the AFM team and / or governance committees
- regulatory commitments, which include reporting and monitoring of breaches, complaints and risks internally/externally
- implementation, production, maintenance and review of the regulated materials (such as prospectus, risk policies, full and interim accounts, factsheets and other filings) including Policies and Procedures for the AFM function
- Assist with the annual compliance monitoring programme
- Consider and present to the AFM function possible solutions to proactively solve complex problems (for example in BAU activities or change activities) where precedent may not exist and present options/plans to resolve issues effectively
- Support the AFM team in managing relationships with colleagues in Phoenix Asset Management, Finance, Compliance, Risk, Tax, Legal and Actuarial.
- Work with and support Phoenix Asset Management Policyholder Assets team, the AFM team and Head of Authorised Fund Management in delivering optimal policyholder outcomes across the AFM fund ranges.
- Support relationship management with external partners in asset management, fund administrators, transfer agents, Depositaries and custodians for the AFM fund ranges.
- To support BAU / project / change initiatives relating to the AFM function
Additional Accountabilities
- Support the production of papers for inclusion in board and internal committee reports
- Support the AFM function with the production of KPI’s and Dashboard reporting
- Support the AFM function by attending meetings if required
- Lead project teams, if required, and potentially train/guide junior employees or SMEs around the wider business on issues relating to the AFM function.
- Managing key relationships
- Internal: Investment Office, Compliance, Investment Accountant, Finance and Customer Team
- External: Fund Managers, Fund Accountants, Investor Services, Auditors and Trustees
What are we looking for?
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- Ideally understanding of UK Authorised Unit Trusts, Authorised Contractual Schemes, OEICs
- Basic understanding of Alternative Investment Funds, Long Term Asset Funds and property funds (desirable, but not essential)
- Basic understanding of Unit Linked Funds (desirable, but not essential)
- Broad understanding of how investment funds operate, including investment management, investment operations, regulatory environment, fund governance, policyholder outcomes, fund types and structures.
- Broad understanding of asset classes across equities, fixed income and alternatives (illiquids) and their application in funds.
- Basic understanding and knowledge of investment markets, investment strategy and fund management methodologies as they apply to investment funds.
- Stakeholder Management;
- Internal stakeholder groups across multiple disciplines e.g. Accounting, Legal, Tax, Actuarial, Finance, Operations and Risk.
- External stakeholder management (preferably, but not limited to, fund accountants, auditors, transfer agents and investment managers)

- Acts on own initiative, able to deliver analysis, make logical decisions, formulate judgements and find solutions
- Strong organisational skills and high attention to detail
- Ability and enthusiasm for working and communicating effectively with various internal and external stakeholders
Qualifications
- IAQ (Desirable or working towards completion)
- IMC (Desirable or working towards completion)
- A recognised accountancy qualification (Desirable or working towards completion)
