Why this role is important for CPI’s work
CPI Enterprises is the venture capital and investor engagement of CPI. The team is small, agile and highly motivated to establish a strategic approach that combines private investment to develop technology-based areas of the UK economy and direct investment to early-stage technology companies. The team are responsible for the implementation and execution of the business plan for CPI Enterprises. They hold responsibility for CPI’s investment portfolio and for developing innovative business opportunities arising from CPI’s IP, assets and know-how.
As the investment Analyst, you will be responsible for researching and analysing the private investment trends in order to inform our business development activities and support relationship management activities. You will also support the Investment Team with analysis of potential investment opportunities as and when they arise. Key tasks in the role will include but not limited to the below:
- To be flexible and undertake all activities that are linked with ensuring the role and CPI Enterprises’ objectives are met.
- Undertaking analysis of new business opportunities, including due diligence and contributing to the production of investment reports to be presented to CPI Enterprises Investment Committee.
- Assisting in portfolio management of investee businesses to assist with business growth, including analysis of management accounts and board packs.
- To prepare briefings on key investors for other team members to inform and support their relationship management activities.
- To keep the core team up to date in terms of investment trends, news relevant to partner investors and next generation technology relevant to CPI’s capabilities.
- To support with the production of insights and case studies in order to build CPI’s credibility with the private investment community.
- To analyse the Group’s commercial customers and assist with the identification of those with high growth potential.
- To assist with the assessment of internal opportunities referred to CPI Enterprises by other teams or committees, (i.e. bids team, IP Committee or BD team), within the Group.
- To contribute towards the performance of due diligence on investment opportunities.
- To review customers’ pitch decks and provide feedback in order for customers to refine their presentations to investors.
The person we are seeking
It is essential that you are educated to Degree level and hold relevant experience in strategic marketing, finance, investment analysis or other relevant roles. It would be great if you also had financial modelling, accounting or banking experience. You should also:
- Be knowledgeable of investing in early-stage technology companies.
- Hold excellent planning and organising skills to work to and meet deadlines.
- Be able to produce accurate and timely reports, methodical and pays attention to detail.
- Enjoy working with data to spot trends and understand when to follow up on them.
- Be able to assimilate data and synthesise into clear, unambiguous business proposals and recommendations for decision making.
- Be able to demonstrate a track record of working with collaborative teams and leaders in organisations.
- Have experience of analysing, visualising and communicating data in a compelling way.
- Be proficient in Excel and confident MS Office 365 user (Word, PowerPoint, OneDrive, etc.)
A desire to develop ability to automate data processing tasks (e.g. using Excel VBA) and workflows, e.g. using Microsoft Flow, Python, etc would also be hugely beneficial!

CPI is an organisation based in the UK. Commencement of employment is conditional to demonstrating right to work in the UK, sponsorship may be available.

Salary: £20,000.00-£32,000.00 per year
