At GSK, we are poised to transform drug discovery for our patients by unlocking the genetic causes behind disease, allowing people to do more, feel better, and live longer. Our new approach to R&D is focused on science related to manipulating the immune system, guided by data from unique human genetics and functional genomics platforms, to discover novel target-disease links with high confidence. As the output of these genetically inspired, large-scale experiments identify disease targets with higher confidence of translating in the clinic, predictive computational methods are essential to help improve the probability of success of developing new medicines and to accelerate the time needed to design them. To enable that, we have created a world-leading data and computational environment to develop and apply advanced modeling and analytics that exploit GSK’s unique access to organized, impactful data.
We are seeking highly motivated individuals to join our Computational Sciences team, efficiently speeding up the way GSK discovers and develops transformational medicines through the integration of advanced computational methods, predictive in silico models, and expert analyses. These key roles will help set the stage for the company’s future, by working across all of GSK Pharma and Vaccines R&D with our Genomic Sciences, Chemical Biology, Protein & Structural Sciences, Biopharm Discovery and Development, Enzyme Engineering and Biocatalysis, and AI/ML teams to deliver a strategy that informs the most efficient way to deliver the desired pharmacological modulation to affect the specific disease biology. The successful applicants will use computation to enable selection of the highest value and most tractable targets, identify the most progressible and highest quality small and large biotherapeutics, accelerate lead optimization across all modalities, and inform the right clinical plan to deliver impactful medicines to patients.
Key responsibilities:
Apply computational techniques to guide directed evolution of proteins, by working with experimental groups to drive experimental design and improvement of models via active learning
Design of high-throughput experimental platforms to enable accurate and generalizable predictive modeling
Integrate large-scale biophysical data to predict, model, and stabilize therapeutically relevant protein complex and antigen conformations for drug and vaccine discovery
Predict and evaluate targets for their probability of success to be drugged across any modality
Develop and apply predictive models for antibody/protein design and developability engineering, utilizing large-scale NGS, patient-derived, and other proprietary in-house and external data sources
Design and build infrastructure to enable large-scale predictive modeling
De novo design and multiobjective optimization of tool and therapeutic antibodies and other modalities
Develop and embed computational methods into visualization packages to enable experimental multi-variant analysis and data-driven decision-making
Collaborate with external groups to further develop protein engineering computational methods
Why you?
Basic Qualifications:
We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
PhD or 3+ years of experience in Computational Chemistry or Biology, Bioinformatics, Physics, Chemistry, or related fields
Experience in antibody and/or general protein sequence and structural analysis
Experience in one or more programming languages (e.g. Python, C/C++)
Preferred Qualifications:
We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
Understanding of sequence and structure of antibody repertoires and bioinformatics tools utilized in their analysis
Experience with high performance computing and/or cloud computing
Experience developing and applying machine learning (ML) algorithms for biological data
Demonstrated ability to work in multi-disciplinary matrix teams, displaying excellent interpersonal skills
Strong organisational and communication skills (both written and oral), with the ability to liaise with scientists and external collaborators at all levels
Ability to generate conclusion reports, present data in team meetings and participate in writing of abstracts and publications for the scientific community
