- High School Diploma or GED or preferred EIPA score of 3.5.
- Valid Registry of RID Certification, or a Valid QAS Level III, or a Valid National Interpreter Certification.
- Initial Paraprofessional Certification – Education Interpreter pursuant to State Board policy.
- Be able to interpret effectively, accurately, and impartially both receptively and expressively, using any necessary specialized vocabulary. Must have knowledge of deafness and deaf culture. The interpreter must have knowledge of hearing loss and other conditions and their effect on early development of language. An interpreter should have knowledge of speech, motor, adaptive skills, and social-emotional development of the Deaf/HH student.
- Have the ability to follow oral and written directions and have the physical capacity to lift children with disabilities.
- Serve as an Educational Sign Language Interpreter I in Ohio County on a full-time basis and as an Instructional Aide providing support services in a public school setting
- Work under the direction and supervision of the Director of Special Education.
- Provide communication across all educational environments to students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Plan and work cooperatively with country personnel on school programs, curriculum, staff development, parental guidance, and areas relevant to support of public schools
- Perform other related duties reflected on the attached job description and as assigned by the supervisor and/or principal.
