Job description

  • To undertake occupational therapy assessments for a designated caseload, addressing occupational performance and skill deficits, enabling the service user in areas of self-care, productivity and leisure. In turn, recommending support needs and referring on to the relevant agencies. *To work with service users to identify Occupational Therapy goals as part of the overall care plan. *To plan and implement individual and/or group interventions, in collaboration with the service user, using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals.
  • To monitor and evaluate treatment in order to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of the intervention. *To carry out home visits in line with lone working policies and risk assessment and management plans. To complete home environment assessments and access visits (where appropriate) to ensure safety when returning to the home environment and a holistic approach. *To show competence and awareness in risk assessment and management in line with Occupational Therapy principles.
To have an awareness and understanding of positive risk taking. *To plan and implement groups within the hospital's 'Intensive Support Programme'; a series of psychoeducational groups that help service users make sense of their situation, in a way that gives them new ways to cope with stress, distress and their unique experience. *To build knowledge of appropriate community resources and access these for service users where appropriate. *To demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of mental illness and its impact on someone's functioning.

To be able to clearly and effectively communicate this with the wider team utilising clinical reasoning and clinical judgement. *To demonstrate the ability to clinically reason and promote all aspects of the Occupational Therapy process. *To contribute to the Care Programme Approach and support service users families/carers and other agencies within this process. *To comment on local service procedures/guidelines as part of the Occupational Therapy Team.

  • To ensure that up to date written and electronic records and activity data are maintained in accordance with Professional and Trust standards. *To comply with the Royal College of Occupational Therapists Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct and national and Trust procedures. *To respect the individuality, values, cultural and religious diversity of service users and contribute to the provision of a service sensitive to these needs. *To review and reflect on own practice and performance through effective use of professional and operational supervision and appraisal.
Utilising reflections for development and maintenance of a CPD portfolio.
