Job description
The fellowship programme is designed to support experienced, skilled overseas psychiatrists to gain an understanding and experience of working in the NHS so that they can work towards building a portfolio of evidence of clinical work that will support a successful CESR application for specialist registration with the GMC.
The programme will be offered as a two-year fellowship. Appointees will be employed at the Specialty Doctor level according to previous experience.
During the first six months of the programme the appointee will shadow a Consultant Psychiatrist. The following six months will provide further opportunities for the appointee to work as an autonomous practitioner whilst under the close supervision of a Clinical Supervisor. In the second year of the fellowship the appointee will continue to progress into a higher level of responsibility with a named clinical supervisor but with a greater degree of independence. There will be opportunities to consolidate clinical skills and progress a special interest.
There will be regular supervision throughout the two-year programme with an annual NHS appraisal. In addition, there will be additional support provided to enable the appointee to gain evidence towards a CESR portfolio.
After an induction period, fellows will participate in the on-call rota to gain the same level of experience as UK based doctors. Please note this role and on-call rotas are based throughout Lincolnshire.
Ensure that all new patients admitted under your team’s care are fully assessed by completing a thorough history including an assessment of their physical health as well as conducting risk assessments
Under the supervision of a clinical supervisor, be responsible for the day to day continuing reassessment, management and treatment of patients
Under the supervision of a clinical supervisor, prescribe pharmacological, psychological and psychosocial treatments for the patients that you are working with
Be able to work within the framework of National and Trust CPA policies and procedures
Refer patients promptly to other professionals as directed by your Clinical Line Manger enabling qualitative joint working and a smooth transition of care. Where relevant this will include preparing and writing of summaries and letters regarding care/treatment progress
Work with all partner agencies in the developing practices that promote effective joint working that lead to successful completion of treatment programmes
Take part in the Multi-Disciplinary Team Meetings on the ward and within the community, liaising with various members i.e. Psychologists, Social Workers and General Practitioners
Be familiar with the provisions of the Mental Health Act 1983 as amended by Mental Act (2007)
Participate in Clinical Governance this will include dealing with complaints, identifying and reporting serious untoward incidents, clinical audit and adopting effective clinical practice
