Position Summary:
We are delighted to announce our highly competitive internship programme, commencing Summer 2023! We are seeking five interns to join us on a full-time basis, commencing in August 2023 and ending in January 2024. This paid programme provides interns with opportunities to work on meaningful projects that contribute to the organisation's success, whilst developing their personal and business acumen. Interns will gain mentoring and insight into the business of basketball, get firsthand access to a global sports organisation and interact directly with and learn from NBA employees and executives.
We are seeking 5 Interns in total to work across 4 disciplines:
- 2 Interns for Fan Engagement & Direct-To-Consumer
- 1 Intern for Global Partnerships
- 1 Intern for Global Media Distribution
- 1 Intern for Basketball Operations
These placements will all be located at the NBA UK office in London, therefore, it is essential that candidates hold the Right to Work in the UK.
Department Summaries and Main Responsibilities:
Fan Engagement & DTC
Fan Engagement & DTC is responsible for managing the NBA's Direct-To-Consumer products and services (NBA App, NBA League Pass and more) as well as the regional marketing operation, brand development, strategy, and advertising of league-wide marketing campaigns and promotional initiatives across the NBA, WNBA, NBA G League, and NBA 2K League. This department works to carry out the league's strategy of growing the game of basketball globally by hosting NBA events around the world, creating new content formats for our digital products, managing all of our social media accounts and overseeing international public and media relations as well as insight and analytics.
This department is looking for 2 interns: One position will work to implement and execute marketing, promotional & PR campaigns and other activities in coordination with the marketing and communications teams. The other position will work with our Content & Social team, gaining insight to the production of NBA content. Both positions are ideal for candidates with an interest in marketing and digital marketing, to learn and work on a broad range of projects with the goal of growing fan interest and engagement with the NBA.
Global Partnerships (GP)
Global Partnerships develops and manages marketing and merchandising partnerships with some of the world's most recognizable brands. The department creates and executes marketing and merchandising platforms tailored to driving each partner's business around the NBA, WNBA, NBA G League, and NBA 2K League. This role will support the Account Management and Licensing & Merchandising teams within the Global Partnerships department. The successful candidate will support on projects such as partner collaborations, licensing events and trade shows, and will be exposed to the prospects of new licensees and sponsorships. The successful candidate will also support the day-to-day management of a portfolio of Marketing Partners and assist with the planning and execution of events at our NBA Stores.
Global Media Distribution (GMD)
Global Media Distribution manages relationships with the NBA's domestic and international television and digital media partners. The group oversees the distribution of NBA, WNBA, NBA G League, and NBA 2K League games and programming content in more than 200 countries and territories. The content is circulated in more than 40 different languages, reaching millions of households worldwide. The GMD Intern will be responsible for providing business functional support to the GMD EME team, assisting with the account management of all GMD partners (incl. various supporting functions such as Programming, Scheduling, Broadcast Operations or handling the media credential/ticketing process during the season and on-site during events) and the preparing of business development & sales materials.
Basketball Operations
The NBA’s Basketball Operations EME department works to carry out the league’s strategy of growing the game of basketball by getting more youth participating in the game around the world. The Basketball Operations intern position will work across all business lines to support Basketball Operations initiatives and programs throughout Europe, with a primary focus on supporting the day-to-day management of existing NBA Basketball School partners in EME. The successful candidate will also support NBA Basketball School activities around USAB Basketball week, Global Games and our Regular Season Game.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Fluency (written and spoken) in English (Additional language skills are a plus).
- Interest in Sport, Basketball and/or the NBA a plus.
- Demonstrated computer proficiency (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to learn new computer programs.
- Excellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Flexible, with the ability to adapt to constant changing environment.
- Team player with intellectual curiosity and the ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Strong work-ethic and self-motivated.
- Goal oriented, and ability to work within a team environment.
- Detail-oriented and well organized.
Educational Background & Other Requirements:
- Must hold the Right to Work & Live in the UK.
- Graduated from either their undergraduate or postgraduate university degree.
Recruitment Process & Next Steps:

If successful during the first round, candidates will then be invited and required to attend an assessment day, taking place at our NBA UK London office.
