Job description
JOB SUMMARY
Trainee Applications Engineer will become a key role in integrating 3D Systems’ machines into production environments. This individual will learn how to apply conventional manufacturing and quality control experience to lead customers to a cutting-edge manufacturing solution that meets their production requirements using additive manufacturing technologies. After a period of internal training possibly combined with formal studies, the incumbent will shadow experienced applications engineers and begin to work with prospects, customers and manufacturers to optimize the part design (DfAM) for the 3D printing system’s capabilities, as well as lead the customization requirements of the printing system and workflow for the manufacturing integration.
KEY FUNCTION (INCLUDES, BUT NOT LIMITED TO):
Work in tandem with the GCS team to:
- Ensure new installations/customer adoption of 3DS solution is successful and meets customer expectations.
- Diagnose and resolve Field Service issues that are not directly associated with a hardware issue (i.e are software-, material- or application-related).
- Train new customers in use of 3DS solutions.
- Work with customers to improve and increase use of 3DS solution (including DFAM).
- Provides market feedback and intelligence on competitive products (technical and commercial) to Product/Platform Managers and feedback on market requirements to allow 3DS to ensure the relevance its product offerings.
- Provides detailed feedback and results to the R&D and Platform Management teams. This could include product development programs of work and customer testing.
- Promote 3DS solutions, esp. new material where an opportunity is identified in the field.
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS
- Working alongside experienced application engineers and colleagues within CIC’s and AIG to learn the fundamentals of 3D printing technologies, machines, materials, software, post processing and workflows including learning how operating the same
- Benchmark 3D production printing system against traditional manufacturing as well as other 3D printing options.
- Travel to CIC’s (including extended periods working with CIC personnel on benchmarking and projects) customer and manufacturing sites.
• Engineering technical liaison/advisor on development of custom system & workflow for specific customer.
• Leverage existing knowledge and experience to penetrate traditional manufacturing space.
• Lead integration of 3D printing system at manufacturing site.
• Ensure quality and performance achieve customer requirements.
• Advise customer on part design to optimize performance, throughput and cost with the 3D printing system.
• Work with field engineers, design engineers, scientists and chemists to deliver end-to-end part creation (i.e. coating, polishing, pick-and-place, etc.).
• Attend conferences to learn as well as promote the 3D production printing system and its capabilities.
• Assist with promotional activities and development of demo material.
• Special projects
- In collaboration with the field engineers, the trainer will work with the team to finalize the installation/calibration of new systems. Implement the process and optimize the parameters in line with the technology and customer demand.
- Transmit knowledge and experience appropriately
- Managing training courses and their organisation, understanding customer requirements.
