Summary of Role:
We are currently seeking a talented Specification Researcher & Writer to join our team. The ideal candidate is passionate about all things relating to spaces and architecture, has a strong design sensibility, works well with teams, and appreciates the process of articulating design through the research and specifications. Candidate should understand the importance of maintaining the design vision while implementing the most effective solutions on relating to time and budget. It is imperative to have excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills to juggle multiple on-going projects at varied design stages with constantly shifting priorities. Knowledge and experience with interior architectural projects relating to construction and furnishing installation would be great assets.
The successful candidate will work closely with our internal and external project team members. They will be involved in various aspects of projects and therefore should be an excellent generalist in all areas of design and construction processes. The role is to research, source, review with team, specify/document selections of specifications such material/finishes, lighting, hardware, plumbing fixtures, equipment/appliances, furniture, décor, art, and accessories as required for the project.

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Research/source/communicate with suppliers as required.
- Stay up to date and ahead of the current market to help the firm generate forward thinking innovative solutions.
- Maintain relevant knowledge of general codes and safety regulations.
- Prepare detailed specifications that best protect the design intent and interest of the firm according to industry standards.
- Propose specification options for projects taking account design intent, budget, ergonomic, and occupational health standards.
- Coordinate with internal and external project team members.
- Write technical descriptions specifying material qualities and properties, utilizing knowledge of material standards, construction processes or manufacturing procedures.
- Conduct quality reviews of specification documents such as certifications of sustainability/flammability/etc., while researching and preparing specifications.
- Research innovative products and systems, assisting in maintaining and developing the firm library of catalogues and other information for designers and architects to use.
- Create, maintain, and update company specification digital templates/library/contacts as required.
- Develop specification requirements and solutions.
- Work with project teams to develop documents throughout project phases.
- Stay current on product development, new materials, code changes and industry trends.
Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor's degree design/architecture.
- 3+ years of experience in a range of Interior designer skills with a minimum of 2 years of experience writing specifications.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Experience in the construction industry, including but not limited to interior designing firms, architecture‐engineering firms, construction management or specification consulting firms.
- Basic knowledge of building codes, industry standards, structures and materials standards.
- Practical knowledge of Construction Management delivery methodology, and Canadian Construction Document Committee (CCDC) contracts.
- Ability to work both independently and in a highly collaborative team environment.
- Excellent communication, organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to organize, schedule time for and process multiple projects at once.
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada - holding Canadian Citizenship, Permanent Resident status or a valid work permit.
- Working knowledge of interior construction, drawings, and specifications
