Job description

ZeroAvia is a leader in zero-emission aviation, flying the world's largest hydrogen-electric aircraft since September 2020. Its focus is the design and commercialization of hydrogen-powered aviation solutions to address a variety of markets, initially targeting short-haul, sub-regional commercial flights up to 500 miles. To date, ZeroAvia has secured the UK CAA and FAA experimental permit to fly for its 6-seat aircraft powered by hydrogen-electric powertrain, passed significant flight tests, and is on track for commercial deliveries by 2024. Its achievements to date were rewarded by the UK prime minister by inviting ZeroAvia as a member to the UK Jet Zero Council.

ZeroAvia’s powertrain development focuses on integrating hydrogen storage tanks, fuel cell systems, and electric motors, delivering a solution that will be not only without carbon emissions but also cheaper to operate. Commercializing the solution requires the establishment of a new clean aviation ecosystem, encompassing hydrogen production from renewable energy sources and tackling public perception of safety.

As a ZeroAvia Flight Test Instrumentation engineer you will work for the Head of System Test and be responsible for the design, implementation and operation of flight test instrumentation and telemetry system equipment for the ZeroAvia Hydrogen powertrain development. Working in the design office you will be expected to work closely with the maintenance team and flight test team to provide support for wider business data analysis (including supporting ground and flight tests).

  • Experience in advanced data analysis methods, such as Matlab etc and working/analysing a combination of analogue and digital data.
  • Experience working in Flight/Ground or System Test campaigns either in-ground or airborne roles.

Desirable Competencies and Experience

  • Generating and/or compiling all required analyses and documentation verifying compliance with program and performance requirements.
  • Experience as a Flight Test Engineer supporting airborne data capture and analysis
  • Working with the Flight Test crew (Test Pilot, Flight Test Engineers, Head of Design) in building Test Cards, Schedules and coordinating brief/debrief.
  • Strong knowledge of avionic and mechanical aircraft systems.
  • Strong knowledge of transducers and calibration techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical/electronic theory.
  • Electrical Computer-Aided Design experience.
