Job description
The CUBRC, Inc. Buffalo, NY Office has an immediate need to fill an Optical/Instrumentation Engineering position working on state of the art research and development projects for hypersonic flows. The successful candidate will join a team of researchers to design and implement, in software and electro-optical hardware, advanced non-intrusive diagnostic technologies for short duration hypersonic blowdown facilities. As a member of the engineering team, the successful candidate will perform electro-optical architecture, integration, design, implementation, and testing under the direction of a Principal Engineer or Investigator. The successful candidate may lead small groups of engineers in implementation of specific functionality including aero-optical measurements in hypersonic facilities. In addition to electro-optical instrumentation and software development, responsibilities will include system documentation and presentation preparation.

Requirements:Minimum Qualifications:
A bachelor's or master’s degree in physics (or equivalent) with 10 years’ experience working with transient acquisition with an emphasis on optical engineering and software programming to interface with embedded acquisition and control. Knowledge of molecular and atomic physics regarding non-intrusive measurement of hypersonic flows required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Extensive knowledge and expertise performing and designing non-intrusive optical diagnostics for transient events and 10 years of full time industry experience
- Software development (C++,C) with low level programing experience for interfacing with hardware
- Experience with optical interfaces to tunnel flow with aero-optical flow field diagnostic design and implementation
- Experience designing and implementing species specific Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy instrumentation
- Scientific computing or algorithm/heuristic implementation experience
- Experience with spectroscopy ICCD imagers diffraction and prism based imaging spectrometer design and implementation
- Experience with optical instrumentation design to mitigate vibration and acoustic coupling
