Position Summary:
The Division of Teaching Excellence and Innovation (DTEI) is dedicated to supporting faculty, graduate students, and postdocs in teaching excellence that maximizes students' academic success.
Under the general supervision of the Director of LX Design and Online Education, the Instructional Designer (ID) serves as an innovative resource providing teaching consultation, training, and support to faculty in their efforts to create instructional components, produce multimedia content, and implement learning technologies to cultivate an inclusive and interactive learning environment. The ID assists faculty in determining suitable pedagogical approaches, designing course elements and layouts, implementing digital active learning strategies, and embracing inclusive teaching practices to enhance students' learning experience. The ID also assists faculty in designing learning experiences, identifying the appropriate use of learning technologies, and helping them meet the pedagogical goals that support various learning needs of all students. In addition, the ID is expected to be familiar with web development, emerging technologies, multimedia production, accessibility guidelines, and usability design. Uses skills of instructional design and multimedia development as an experienced professional to help shape curricular content into coherent instructional modules that employ multimedia and a variety of interactive, web-based tools aimed at encouraging the engagement of students and other learners in knowledge acquisition. Demonstrates high degree of collaboration and diplomacy as well as problem analysis and creative solutions. Solves complex content or delivery related issues in collaboration with technical teams. Interacts with senior internal and external personnel. Normally receives little direction for ongoing course development assignments.

Required:
Two-year instructional designer experience for a higher education institution Experience in online course development. Teaching experience is a plus Experience in providing faculty teaching consultation and support Experience in developing faculty development programs or training workshops Experience in adopting learning technologies in online education Experience in building an online course on LMS – Canvas.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Thorough knowledge of organization policies and procedures, including policies that impact all aspects of online and hybrid course development and digital active teaching practice. Thorough knowledge of instructional design principles and learning strategies, including needs analysis, backwards design, learning outcomes and assessment design, and instructional approaches including lecture, discussion, activities, projects, etc. Familiar with copyright and fair use guidelines for online education. Thorough knowledge of the technical tools and platforms required to achieve the delivery of engaging and media-rich online learning content, and of trends in the use and effectiveness of educational technology and learning. Knowledge to conduct appropriate job and task analyses in the context of instructional design of technical or specialized training. Thorough knowledge of e-learning strategies including but not limited to courses (e.g., processes and technologies, etc.). Experience in supporting faculty in designing inclusive learning environment as well as multimedia production, such as audio/video production, graphic/animation design, eLearning module development, etc. Advanced level skills in application of planning, resourcing and monitoring of effective design life cycles of training and other learning and performance solutions to support the organization. Thorough knowledge of applying adult learning theories and educational methodologies. Familiar with ADA policy with experience in creating accessible instructional materials and web pages. Thorough analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills. Thorough knowledge of functional area and understands how work within one course may impact work being done on other courses or in other areas. Strong analytical, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and strong collaboration and negotiation skills. Thorough knowledge and skills with relevant business software systems.
Preferred:
Master's degree in instructional design or related areas and / or equivalent experience / training.
Familiar with Quality Matters Rubric and/or OLC Quality Scorecard. Experience in managing department communication on web platforms, blog, social media, etc.
Special Conditions Required:
Expecting some peak and down work time throughout the year based on the academic calendar and faculty’s teaching support need. Some evenings may be required.
