Life University seeks a fully online instructional designer (ID) for the College of Online Education to execute our mission of providing a high-quality, global online educational experience through excellence in instructional design.
The fully remote Instructional Designer will collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) and other relevant stakeholders to systematically (re)design graduate and undergraduate standardized online courses as well as a variety of resources related to the enhancement of online learning experiences. The individual will ensure instructional alignment in online courses and that courses are designed at the appropriate level based on how they are mapped to the program level curriculum. They will ensure that online courses adhere strictly to Quality Matters instructional-design standards. This individual will train and support SMEs in the application of best practices in online course design.
Responsibilities
- Promote a student-centered approach to instruction, assignments, assessments, interactions, and technologies.
- Promote inclusive, diverse, and accessible learning experiences.
- Conduct quality assurance checks on all SME deliverables.
- Post produce instruction in our Blackboard learning management system.
- In coordination with various departments, develop information, to include survey data, applicable to accreditation requirements and course management databases.
- Assume additional responsibilities and perform special projects as needed or requested.
- Serve on University committees, as appropriate.
- Participate in various University functions, including faculty and administrative development activities.
- Maintain accurate records.
- Maintain course software supplies and other materials.
- Exhibit student centeredness in the performance of all job duties.
- Deliver work products and services to customers in a way that reflects positively upon the College and the University.
Requirements
- A Master’s degree in instructional design, instructional technology, or related field from an accredited College or University.
- Five or more years of related experience in higher education.
- Quality Matters peer reviewer training.
- Expertise in online course development and delivery.
- Expert command of best practices in distance education.
- Mastery of adult and online learning theories and instructional-design models for the delivery hybrid and online learning experiences.
- Strong command of HTML.
- Expert command of Blackboard or similar LMS.
- Strong command of course authoring tools such as Camtasia, SoftChalk, and Articulate.
- Expert use of Microsoft Office 365 productivity software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.
- Strong command of Adobe creative software such as Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrate, etc.
- Ability to identify and adopt new technologies conducive to learning.
- Expert command of Fair Use, copyright, and accessibility (Section 504 and Section 508) compliance.
- Ability to author WCAG2.0 compliant HTML content.
- Familiarity with OER principles and sources.
- Strong presentation and meeting facilitation skills.
- Experience in development and implementation of policies and procedures.
- Able to prioritize and manage multiple projects, adhering to strict timelines.
- Able to assume responsibility for student success in the teaching and learning environment.
- Able to perform duties independently with minimal supervision.
- Experience in the conversion of Semester System credit hour courses to Quarter Based credit hour courses.
- Experience with converting traditional face-to face courses to a fully online modality.
