Why does the job exist?
This position assists in the daily monitoring of residents; working closely with education, clinical, and other milieu staff. The duties of this position include but are not limited to, aiding residents in developing life skills, building recreation and social activities and re-directing patient behavior. This position will require working days, evenings, nights, weekends, and/or holidays and includes mandating of overtime. Incumbents will work with teachers in the classroom as well as with residents on the lodge.
How does it get done?
Crisis Prevention Intervention and Trauma Informed Care are the cornerstone of treatment at Sequoyah Adolescent Treatment Center. De-Escalation techniques and coping mechanisms are offered to residents and life skills are taught to assist with success upon discharge.
Who are the customers?
Our facility is a secure facility which serves the needs of adolescent males ages 13-17 with a history of violence and aggression.
Ideal Candidate
Will have experience:
working in a residential treatment facility;
working in a therapeutic milieu; and
working recover-oriented and /or trauma-informed-care environments.
Minimum Qualification
High School Diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience as it pertains to the essential duties of the classification.
Employment Requirements
Completion of the hiring process is contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment screening process. This position is designated as safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing.
Must have an Education Assistant License or obtain one within six (6) months of employment. A NM Driver's License, Defensive Driving Certificate, successful background check, First Aid Certificate, CPR Certificate, and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training/certificate are all continued requirements of employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an adolescent treatment center, with exposure to mentally and/or behaviorally challenged residents, who may exhibit unpredictable behaviors. Pushing, pulling, lifting, moving upwards of 100 lbs with assistance may be required. This position may work in an office setting using related office equipment, with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal and extensive personal computer and phone usage.
