Job description
A Level 3 Installer is responsible for performing installation procedures for HVAC comfort systems (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) for homes and businesses.
Full-time / Non-Exempt / Hourly position under the management of the Installation Manager. 40 hours per week.
Role and Responsibilities
Perform installation of residential and commercial HVAC systems according to company standards, and provide the customer with a high quality experience.
Expand knowledge of comfort systems, components, and installed equipment to ensure code compliance and timely problem resolution.
Arrive at jobsite at scheduled time and location as dispatched; Relocate from one job site to another job site as dispatched during the workday; Follow instructions from supervisor and/or dispatcher and carry out in a timely manner.
Perform the following duties above Level 2:
- Run and work a job from start to finish without supervision.
- Delegate tasks to Installers to maximize productivity.
- Install charge condensers and heat pumps.
- Install mini-split systems.
- Run complete line voltage circuits.
- Lay out and install advanced low voltage wiring, including heat pump, two stage a/c, zoning, and thermostat programming and setup.
- Change out light commercial systems.
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams and blueprints.
- Size and draw duct work correctly.
- Start up and troubleshoot equipment and accessories, including furnaces, air handlers, heat pumps, and condensing units.
- Remove and install rooftop equipment.
Develop advanced knowledge of and become proficient at:
- Line and low voltage wiring, relays, transformers, and wiring diagrams.
- Load center requirements, wire gauge requirements, etc.
- 208/230 3 phase wiring.
- Layout, design, fabrication, and installation.
- Complex sheet metal fittings.
- Safety of tools, testing equipment, and surroundings.
- Crane and rooftop safety.
Converse with building owners and homeowners, general contractors, and refer questions and/or problems to the Installation Manager.
Assist with training Installers Levels 1-2, and foster motivation and commitment. Develop training programs for the installation department as needed and directed.
Enroll in extra training to further knowledge of the HVAC industry and management (16 hours required).
Be available to work early evenings and Saturdays, as needed.
Properly complete all paperwork required for each job, as well as job packets, change orders, timecards, etc.
Maintain proper stock, parts, tools, and safety equipment in the company vehicle.
Report problems with equipment to the Installation Manager to expedite parts delivery.
Communicate clearly the ideas and explanations of problems and/or solutions to customers, co-workers, and supervisors.
Project a professional appearance and a pleasant attitude towards co-workers, supervisors, and customers, and interface effectively and cooperatively with other professionals.
Provide customers with information about products and services provided by Moore Mechanical.
Identify and report to Owner potential opportunities for additional business (service contracts and additional services).
Ensure and protect the confidentiality of Moore Mechanical information, including that of staff, supervisors, and outside contacts, and all other proprietary information.
Organize work by checking and responding to all communications (in-box, voicemail, email, etc.) and completing all required documentation and paperwork (business, personnel, safety, etc.) in accordance with quality standards, practices, and deadlines.
Demonstrate excellent health & safety practices, as well as advanced safety knowledge of tools and surroundings.
Driver & Vehicle Responsibilities:
Drive assigned company vehicle to travel to job sites in service area, and learn to work with dispatch to ensure schedule is maintained and delays are properly communicated to customer.
Receive and document driver and vehicle training, including procedures for reporting incidents and accidents, with emphasis on communicating with Moore Mechanical management staff.
Adhere to state driver, vehicle, traffic, and highway safety rules and regulations.
Perform a vehicle inspection before and after each use of the vehicle, document it on the Vehicle Inspection Report, and turn it in to the Operations Manager at the end of every month.
Keep assigned vehicle free from damage, in acceptable condition, and consistently clean.
Assist with maintenance of the assigned vehicle through preventative and routine maintenance (e.g. checking fluid levels, fueling, cleaning, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring safe operation of the vehicle, and report any vehicle damage or mechanical malfunctions that exist.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Valid CA Driver License and insurable driving record.
Clean background check and drug and alcohol test prior to start and during employment.
Minimum of two years’ work experience in the HVAC industry and HVAC Tech School certificate or college degree.
EPA certification.
NATE Core Certification and 1 Specialty Certification.
Good analytical skills and attention to detail with ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and manuals.
Practical knowledge of building automation controls.
Ability to learn quickly, adapt to changes in job assignments, and work independently.
Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, with a positive and collaborative attitude.
Effective written and oral communication skills.

- Drive a company vehicle.

- Operate power and hand tools safely.
- Lift and/or move objects weighing 50-100 pounds; push, pull, carry, or maneuver heavier items (with additional manpower or appropriate devices).
- Carry ladders; work from heights; and work in small crawl spaces.
- Work from 28’ extension ladder and 12’ step ladder.
