The Office of Inspector General (OIG) provides independent, objective auditing and investigative services designed to add value, improve the Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller operations, and preserve public trust. The OIG provides citizens of Collier County with professional and cost-effective internal audit services to ensure that the resources entrusted to county government are used efficiently, effectively, and properly. Additionally, the work of the OIG is to educate citizens and policy makers regarding the operation of government, while assisting in the administration of the Clerk’s constitutional duties.
The Auditor will perform essential audits, reviews, inspections, and investigations for the Clerk and county in areas such as fiscal propriety, compliance, procurement, and contract review, while being alert to fraud, waste, and abuse. This highly visible position must possess a strong accounting and finance background and be able to pursue formal investigations into financial irregularities when warranted. This position will perform essential work for OIG such as:
- Conduct audits, investigations, inspections, reviews, and consulting projects in accordance with the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing, the Principles and Standards for Offices of Inspector General, and the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Inspector General Accreditation.
- Develop audit, review, inspections, oversight, and investigative programs for specific assignments in AutoAudit.
- Perform interviews, collect supporting documentation, and review facts to substantiate conclusions in an engagement.
- Perform research, analysis, and interviews to prepare evaluations and recommendations for improvements.
- Evaluate internal accounting and administrative controls in relation to cost benefits and effectiveness.
- Draft comprehensive audit reports and special studies for review by OIG senior staff or the Inspector General.

- Ability to assess, analyze, investigate, and/or evaluate information to ascertain and document compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and requirements.
- Ability to apply professional standards and techniques in internal auditing, inspections, reviews, and program analysis, with a thorough knowledge of principles, practices, and professional standards of internal auditing, inspections, reviews, internal controls, accounting, finance, business administration, and financial management.
- Skilled in extracts and preparation of population data for audit using IDEA or other data-based auditing software.
- Must have the ability to provide counsel and advice to county officials on matters related to audit reports, inspections, contract oversight, special studies, and other related recommendations.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Inspector II
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field; and two years of experience in auditing or related work.
Inspector I
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field; and one year of experience auditing or related work.
NOTE: This position may require travel throughout Collier County, so possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License is required.
