Job description
The Inpatient Booking Clerk has a pivotal role in both the organisation and booking of pre-operative assessment clinics across hospital sites and in supporting the pre-operative assessment nurses to provide a seamless service to elective patients prior to their admission for surgery.
Applicants will be well-motivated and flexible individuals who can work on their own initiative. You will be an efficient team player who can work to deadlines in a demanding environment and portray a professional image at all times.
You will be expected to provide an effective customer focused service in line with the Trust's 'First Impression' Standards and be able to demonstrate confident communication and interpersonal skills.
The range of duties may include routine reception duties and the booking of inpatient appointments.
Keyboard skills are essential.
All successful candidates will be required to present a smart & professional image in line with the Trust's Uniform and Dress Code Policy.
This post will be based predominantly at Broadgreen Hospital, however you may be required to cover clinics at the Royal Hospital site when required, contracts of employment include working at any Trust site.

1. Add patients to the Waiting List with information given via e-mail ensuring accuracy at all times.
2. Send patient requests using the Inpatient Scheduler system booking directly into operating lists. This information comes via the Consultant, his secretary or e-mail. This requires prioritising admission dates to meet deadlines.
3. Select patients for surgery from waiting lists following strict written protocols.
4. Admit, discharge and record attendances of patients for specific Consultants.
5. Where appropriate arrange the booking of Ambulances for patient admissions and pre-operative assessments.
6. Where appropriate arrange Interpreters and Signers for patients acknowledging cultural and personal beliefs.
7. Arrange pre op Appointments and liaise with pre op assessment nurses updating any relevant changes as a result of their pre op assessment and making sure outcomes are recorded correctly. Ensuring Consultant and secretaries are aware of any medical or social problems.
8. Validate all waiting list suspend reports at regular intervals to ensure the suspend policy is adhered to.
9. Print off waiting list reports and pre-admissions for all Consultants ensuring all information is correct and then forward onto the secretaries, Consultants and wards.
10. Liaise with theatre staff to ensure all theatres are fully utilised.
11. Deal with patient enquires and complaints regarding their position on the waiting list, their length of wait, arranging dates for surgery avoiding holiday and work commitments.
12. Updating change of address, phone number and GP information.
13. Cancel patient admissions upon request by patient or clinician and replace on the list as appropriate.
14. Remove patients from the list when requested and inform patient, Consultant and GP as appropriate.
15. Informing GP’s of patients failure to attend pre op appointment and admission dates.
