The Role

Could you partner with external customers and internal policy experts to facilitate the trials of innovative aviation concepts and explore how regulatory policies should advance to enable the UK to be at the forefront of innovation in the future aviation global marketplace?
Due to expansion in the team, we are looking for individuals to join our Innovation Advisory Services team.
You don’t need to be an expert in aviation or policy. Important to us is your ability to see how innovative solutions could deliver the future of aviation, having an open mind to novel concepts and being able to see the potential in an idea.
Acting as an Innovation Specialist in the Innovation Advisory Services (IAS) team, you will provide advisory services to customers and leads the technical delivery of advisory projects. You will be the primary point of contact between a customer and the CAA. You will meet with customers to discuss their needs, understand their innovation, review UK regulations and CAA policies, facilitate research in a Sandbox environment, analyse and interpret findings, prepare recommendations, and produce reports for customers.
You will be working with a broad range of organisations ranging from start-ups to multinational companies.

Core Responsibilities will include:
- Leading the technical delivery of advisory projects and respond to Gateway enquiries from industry
- Leading research projects in a Sandbox environment to explore novel safety arguments and novel CAA policies
- Building and managing relationships with industry as their primary point of contact with the CAA
- Identifying what support the industry requires from the CAA, and create technical proposals that document the support offering
- Developing expertise in specific UK regulations and CAA policies
- Working closely with industry; Clarifying the regulations that are applicable to their innovation; Giving advice on processes to seek regulatory approval and planning roadmaps in conjunction with industry to achieve the objectives of their project
- Connecting industry to the right subject matter experts within the CAA; Mediating discussions and facilitating workshops between industry and the CAA regulatory teams
- Providing expert advice and guidance on regulatory expectations to maintain safety, security, and consumer protection
- Analysing, interpreting, and documenting findings from Sandbox projects
About You
We are looking for someone who has an interest in innovation and the technological trends that will shape the future of aviation. You may be at the start of your professional career and be looking to make the next move to expose yourself to the environment we have to offer.
To be considered for the role you need to have the following competencies:
- Worked independently on projects in an innovation, research, or consultancy environment
- A curious and quick learner, able to analyse information and communicate insights from their project
- Possess a flexible and adaptable approach with evidence of working in highly dynamic and changing environments
- Effective written and verbal communication style
Desirable but not essential:
- Customer-centric, focusing on creating the best experience for customers and on building relationships with customers
- Technical or regulatory expertise in an aviation specialism like RPAS , airspace, airworthiness, air traffic management
- An understanding of future trends such as, artificial intelligence, novel propulsion technologies, environmental issues within aviation

Additional Information
For many appointments within the CAA, these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance.
