The Role
Are you looking for a job where you will work on aviation and aerospace projects ranging from the integration of electric vehicles into UK Airspace, to the delivery of carbon Net Zero and beyond? Due to expansion in the team, we are looking for talented individuals to join our Innovation Advisory Services team. Acting as an Innovation Specialist guiding and supporting industry towards regulatory readiness, with the aim of sharing knowledge and helping to recommend future regulatory frameworks.
You don’t need to be an expert in aviation or policy. Important to us is your ability to see how innovative solutions could deliver the future of aviation, having an open mind to novel concepts and being able to see the potential in an idea.
The Innovation Specialist will be working with a broad range of organisations ranging from start-ups to multinational companies.
This is an outstanding and unique opportunity to address some of the most technically exciting, controversial, and pressing issues in aviation today and into the future.
You’ll be working within a team with a diverse skill set and experience from across innovation, technical, project management and aviation arenas. We are breaking new ground in the ways we work and have a dynamic and pioneering approach to addressing the challenges facing us.
Core Responsibilities will include:
- Building and managing relationships with industry as their primary point of contact with the CAA
- Identifying what support the industry requires from the CAA, and create technical proposals that document the support offering
- Helping to deliver sandbox projects with industry in new and emerging areas, analysing, and interpreting findings from these to help shape future thinking on policy and regulation within the CAA
- Working closely with industry; Giving advice on planning roadmaps in conjunction with industry to achieve the objectives of their project and supporting the processes to seek regulatory approval; Clarifying the regulations that are applicable to their innovation
- Connecting industry to the right subject matter experts within the CAA; Mediating discussions and facilitating workshops between industry and the CAA regulatory teams
- Managing project teams of individuals across different CAA regulatory functions
- Contributing to discussion to support the crafting of regulatory guidance and regulatory principles
About You
We are looking for someone who has an interest in innovation and the technological trends that will shape the future of aviation. You may be at the start of your professional career and be looking to make the next move to expose yourself to the environment we have to offer.
To be considered for the role you need to have the following competencies:
- Worked independently on projects in an innovation, research, or consultancy environment
- A curious and quick learner, able to analyse information and communicate insights from their project
- Possess a flexible and adaptable approach with evidence of working in highly dynamic and changing environments
- Effective written and verbal communication style
Desirable but not essential:
- Customer-centric, focusing on creating the best experience for customers and on building relationships with customers
- Technical or regulatory expertise in an aviation specialism like RPAS , airspace, airworthiness, air traffic management
- An understanding of future trends such as, artificial intelligence, novel propulsion technologies, environmental issues within aviation
Additional Information
For many appointments within the CAA, these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance.
To be vetted we will usually expect a reasonable period of residency in the UK so that meaningful checks can be undertaken. This can either be 3 years or 5 years depending on the level required (CTC or SC). If you do not meet these requirements, we may not be able to accept your application.
