We’re looking for an infrastructure engineer to join the Hybrid Cloud Services (HCS) Operations function within DWP Digital, to provide day-to-day operational support for processes such as software release and user account management.

You will be tasked with delivering operational support in accordance with DWP standards and will liaise with HCS Service Management to ensure the effective resolution of related incidents and problems.

Job description

As an Infrastructure Engineer in Hybrid Cloud Services Operations, you will be responsible for the preparation and support of IT operations solutions and services.

You will work in a team of infrastructure specialists and engineers making sure services are operated in accordance with DWP standards and industry best practice.

You will:

  • Provide operational support for digital infrastructure, ensuring that services meet agreed performance targets.
  • Maintain an effective working relationship with all key stakeholders.
  • Support Service Management processes, including incident management, problem management, change enablement, and continual service improvement.
  • Prioritise, diagnose, and seek resolutions to incidents relating to your area, ensuring that major incidents are escalated.
  • Initiate and monitor actions to investigate and proactively address problems relating to your area, retaining ownership of issues until they are closed.
  • Assess and implement changes, in accordance with change control procedures.
  • Create and maintain infrastructure support documentation.
  • Line-manage, coach and mentor junior team members.
  • Be mindful of the end-user experience, how this impacts IT Operations and how it can have a social impact.
  • Promote infrastructure operations best practice, escalating potential issues / risks as appropriate.

You will be supported by an active Engineering Practice within DWP Digital. You may be required to provide out of hours support as needed, or on a scheduled rota basis.

This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work. The number of days that anyone will be able to work at home will be determined primarily by business need but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account. If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working, including whether a hybrid working arrangement is suitable for you, will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.

Salary Information

Salary for this role is from £34,173 (Band min) to £34,971(Band max).

Our offer to successful candidates will be based on an assessment of your skills and experience as demonstrated at interview.

Existing Civil Servants who secure a new role on lateral transfer should maintain their current salary.

Existing Civil Servants who gain promotion may move to the bottom of the next grade pay scale or 10% increase in salary whichever would be the greater.

Stage 1: Application

  • Operational Management - Provides operational support for IT solutions and services.
  • Service Focus - Takes inputs and establishes coherent frameworks that work.
  • Knowledge and experience of service management framework (e.g. ITIL) terminology, structure and basic concepts, and comprehend the core practices for service management.
  • Familiarity of identifying deficiencies in operational processes.
  • Independently supporting and maintaining a product.

Stage 2: Interview

If you’re successful at sift stage you will be invited to a video interview via Microsoft Teams. There, you will be assessed against the experiences listed in the essential criteria.
