More than you expected
Grant Thornton UK LLP is part of a global network of independent audit, tax and advisory firms, made up of some 58,000 people in over 135 countries. We're a team of independent thinkers who put quality, inclusion and integrity first. All around the world we bring a different experience to our clients. A better experience. One that delivers the expertise they need in a way that goes beyond. Personal, proactive, and agile. That's Grant Thornton.
Job Description:
NEW GROUND WON’T BREAK ITSELF.
Every day our teams help people in businesses and communities to do what is right and achieve their goals.
Transport is a core sector within our Public Services Advisory offering. Today, transport infrastructure is seen as a stimulator of economic growth and regeneration, rather than being responsive to increasing demand. Governments around the world consider improved transport services as a means of increasing competitiveness within national, regional, urban and local economies. But transport authorities must balance economic, environmental, technical, and safety interests within a context of limited funding and long lead-times for the development of new infrastructure. These constraints accentuate a need for innovative solutions underpinned with rigorous, evidence-based review.
Grant Thornton’s PSA team provides more than generic financial advice; in order to meet these challenges and deliver optimal solutions we have assembled a dynamic team of advisers that have in-depth experience and expertise. Supported by specific industry experience, we understand the complex matrix of issues that can help or hinder the delivery of a project. Grant Thornton believes that success for clients depends on an integrated team that combine an ability to think strategically with a deep practical understanding of transport economics and delivery.
We are market leaders in the public sector transport advisory space, regularly competing and winning against the Big 4. We are involved in some of the most high profile capital projects in the UK and are often shaping the strategic direction of both public and private sector clients. We are looking to expand our team of expert advisers with a focus on transport delivery and transformation.
Travel to Grant Thornton offices and to client sites will be required, but we are also happy to talk flexible working and consider reduced hours and job shares, we’ll support you to balance your work and life.
A look into the role
As a Director within our Infrastructure team you will:
  • Take the lead in developing and delivering to existing and new clients, specifically:
    • Consolidating relationships across key accounts, through both strategic and delivery advice. (Key accounts include DfT, High Speed 2, GBRTT, Transport Scotland, TfL, TfW, TfGM and other devolved bodies)
    • Developing relationships with new clients such as infrastructure delivery bodies, private sector owning groups/operators, financiers and international clients
    • Identifying and leading opportunities to win work through strategic relationships with other advisors
  • Identify and supporting the development of new products and services to wider transport modes, including integration with our Net Zero offering
  • Support the development of our people including identification and recruitment of diverse talent
  • Help drive the brand in the market and visibility, including the development of one’s own profile in the market
  • Contribute to the growth consulting services in the transport market, including the application of consulting methodologies for the transport sector
  • Working with the consulting team to deliver areas such as process improvement projects and affordability reviews within central and local governments
Knowing you’re right for us
Joining us as a Director, the minimum criteria you’ll need is to have:
  • Track record in winning and/or delivering large and/or complex assignments for clients

  • Track record of building and leading teams – either as part of a consultancy assignment or an organization
  • A deep understanding of the consultancy market: bid writing, competitive environment, commercial approaches
It would be great if you had some of the following skills, but don’t worry if you don’t tick every box, we’ll help you develop along the way.
  • Infrastructure delivery models
  • Sponsorship
  • Change and transformation
  • Government bodies/processes

Beyond the job
Life is more than work. The things you do, and the people you’re with outside of work matter, that’s why we’re happy to look at flexible working options for all our roles, and we’ll always do our best to keep your work and life in balance.
The impact you can make here will go far beyond your day job. From secondments, to fundraising for local charities, or investing in entrepreneurs in the developing world, you’ll be giving back to society. It’s that drive to do the right thing that runs through our every move, grounded in our CLEARR values – Collaboration, Leadership, Excellence, Agility, Respect and Responsibility.
