Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose delivers the UK’s two highest defence priorities: assuring the nuclear deterrent and protection of the nation’s aircraft carriers. An operational Air Station, Culdrose has a workforce of more than 3000 personnel that are all directly or indirectly involved in generating or supporting the naval air squadrons and their personnel.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

As an Assistant Works Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the Infrastructure Works Party. You will also be responsible for being the Infrastructure SME for designated sites at RNAS Culdrose.

You will brief and liaise with the Building Managers and occupants in the areas of your responsibility. You will be the primary point of contact for Command, DIO and VIVO for your designated site. You will be expected to carry out briefings for Contractors and Building Managers. You will be the Department SHE Representative and will be expected to attend the SHEF termly meetings. All the members of the Infrastructure Team are required to deputise for each other, ensuring that any arising issues can be dealt with promptly. The successful applicant will be expected to pursue overdue defects, and to advise Command of any urgent Infrastructure failures. Your designated buildings will predominantly be in the “Living” Site, but a flexible approach is needed to assist in the management of RNAS Culdrose infrastructure.

Experience and passion for collaboration is important to ensure all areas of work are completed to a satisfactory standard, coupled with the ability to be individually motivated to support wider team objectives.

The successful candidate will be required to prioritise time spent alternating between office-based work and site visits.

Who are we looking for?

Primary

  • Liaise and co-ordinate with sections/squadrons/departments across the station to ensure physical infrastructure is maintained and costs are minimised.
  • Liaise with all section Building Managers across RNAS Culdrose to ensure problems are solved in a cost effective and timely manner.
  • Conduct Station briefings for section Building Managers / Custodians across the estate.
  • To be the Building Manager for the Infrastructure Dept. main building.
  • To be the Health and Safety Representative for the Infrastructure Dept.
  • To Attend the SHE Rep the SHEF termly meetings
  • Act as Works Manager with responsibility for managing the day-to-day Infra Working Team programme and prioritising work.
  • Manage minor Infra Team projects from conception to completion including procurement of items, where required, and providing section engagement to ensure full visibility of works.
  • Carry out Risk Assessments and ensure they are maintained for the Infra Dept. Working Team.
  • Complete SHE Risk Assessments for the Infra Dept.
  • Schedule meetings and training sessions for the Infra Working Team to ensure they remain qualified to complete their working activities, including Civil Service Mandatory HR requirements.
  • Carry out any general tasks as required within the Infra Team.
  • Attend Infrastructure led meetings as required
  • Attend Single Living Accomodation management meetings
  • Attend other meetings as agreed

  • To contribute to energy conservation by assisting in the continuing education efforts of Station personnel.
