This is a high-profile and exciting area, with continuing political, public and media interest. Dundee is the location of the Agency's headquarters, with Glasgow the Agency's other main location. The post-holder will be able to work from either location. Some travel between locations will be required.
While a professional qualification in a relevant area of information governance would be an advantage, we provide all our staff with the opportunity to undertake formal qualifications.

The post-holder will also represent information rights issues in a variety of forums and groups in Social Security Scotland.

The Data Protection and Information Governance branch is responsible for ensuring that Social Security Scotland complies with its obligations under data protection, freedom of information and records management law and policy. We do this in a number of ways including:
managing requests for information under data protection and freedom of information laws including requests from third parties;- investigating and responding to personal data breaches;
- supporting teams to carry out data protection impact assessments and ensuring the organisation implements privacy by design approaches;
- setting standards for records management;
- carrying out awareness raising and assurance work on compliance with legislation and policies.

The post sits within the Information Governance Team, which forms part of the Data Protection and Information Governance Branch. The post-holder will be responsible for a number of duties, including but not limited to the following:
managing a team (currently six staff) delivering the Agency’s freedom of information responsibilities, third party disclosures and data subject requests;- advising on complex or sensitive data subject rights, freedom of information and disclosure issues;
- leading on information governance deliverables, including identifying risks, interdependencies or actions to ensure information governance compliance of the delivery of Social Security Scotland’s business;
- building excellent relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
- producing communications and guidance to raise awareness of information governance requirements, including through formal communications and learning and development initiatives, and
- identifying opportunities for improvement and learning within the team in order to support the branch’s continuous improvement approach to compliance with information governance requirements.
The post-holder will also represent information rights issues in a variety of forums and groups in Social Security Scotland.
